Ralph Vaughn to Speak at 54th Annual Chamber Prayer Breakfast

The Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce is delighted to invite the community to the 54th Annual Chamber Prayer Breakfast, a cherished tradition of unity and reflection. The event will be held on Thursday, November 21st from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM at the Smithville First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center, located at 101 W. Church Street, Smithville. Doors will open at 6:30 AM, welcoming all who wish to attend.
This year, we are honored to have Ralph Vaughn as our guest speaker. A DeKalb County native, Ralph is widely recognized for his 15-year tenure as the manager of WJLE and as the voice of the Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree and the DeKalb County Fair for 25 years. With a diverse career spanning 21 years in radio broadcasting and 18 years as the president of various chambers of commerce including those in Rutherford County, the Madison-Morgan County Chamber in Madison, Georgia, and the Tennessee Christian Chamber of Commerce in Nashville. Ralph’s professional experience also includes property management, public relations, and marketing. An active and dedicated member of every community he has served, Ralph and his wife, June, also a native of Smithville, now reside in Nashville.
The event will feature special music and prayers led by community members, enriching this meaningful morning. Additionally, the Smithville First Baptist Church’s Men’s Group will prepare a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast for all attendees, with the Leadership DeKalb Class of 2025 assisting with serving.
Tickets for the Chamber Prayer Breakfast are available at a cost of $5 per person. City to Make Accommodations for Early Voting During Smithville Boo Bash Downtown

The 13th annual Smithville Boo Bash will be Thursday, October 31 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. at participating businesses in town and at the courthouse and county complex. Look for the orange pumpkin in the window.
Although much of the public square will be blocked off for the Boo Bash next Thursday, October 31 starting at 11 a.m. the City of Smithville will make accommodations for voters on the last day of early voting for the November 5th elections by keeping Market Street and Third Streets open on the south side of the courthouse. The Smithville Police Department will also be stepping up patrols in the area for the safety of kids trick or treating and voters.
Motorists are urged to leave parking spaces open on the south side of the courthouse for voters.
Election Administrator Dustin Estes has produced a diagram showing the traffic pattern during early voting Thursday, October 31 during the Boo Bash. According to Mayor Josh Miller W Market St, S 4th St, S 3rd St, an E Market St will be left open.

For participating businesses and offices, the Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber is excited to sponsor the Best Costume Contest and Best Decorations Contest.

Ben Driver Qualifies for States at Cross Country Regionals

The DCHS Cross Country team traveled to Macon County High School yesterday, October 29th, to compete in their D1 A-AA Regional Championship race. The top 4 teams automatically qualify to States along with the next top 5 individuals (not on a qualifying team). Sophomore, Ben Driver, was amongst the top 5 individuals that punched their ticket to the TSSAA State Championship meet that will be held November 7th at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville. He finished 16th overall in a field of 111 runners with a personal best of 18:56 for the hilly 5K course.
Several PR’s were set by the DCHS runners yesterday as well, and Senior teammate Caleb Gray, who has been out most of the season with an ankle injury was able to race at his final XC meet! Personal bests for the year included Kaine Salas 21: 28, Michael Gamble 22:11, Ethan Spears 23:14 and Mylie Phillips 23:46 (top 20). Caleb Gray finished in 20:04, Emily Fry in 24:37 and Dan Rodgers in 31:02. Teammates Vaden Trexler and Cale Brown could not attend.
In addition, four seniors wrapped up their final cross country racing with remarkable dedication and commitment. Caleb Gray, Cale Brown (injured not at Regionals), Mylie Phillips, and Madeline Martin have all been racing since their 6th grade year at DMS and have seen the entire program through for the last 7 years. What a fantastic accomplishment for these DCHS student athletes. Congrats to them!
