DeKalb 4-H County-Wide Speech Contest Set for January 9th

The DeKalb County 4-H County-Wide Speech Contest will be held Saturday, January 9th 2021 at the DeKalb Community Complex Auditorium. This year’s contest will be open to any 4th-12th grader who wishes to participate. 4th-8th grade speeches may be on any topic while 9th-12th grade must relate to 4-H.
Time limits:
-4th: 1-3 Minutes
-5th-6th: 2-4 Minutes
-7th-12th: 3-5 minutes
Contest Times:
-4th Grade: Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the contest starting at 10:00 a.m.
-5th Grade: Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the contest starting at 1:00 p.m.
-6th-12th Grade: Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the contest starting at 3:00 p.m.
Contestants must RSVP to 615-597-4945 or lfuson2@utk.edu by January 5th. Covid-19 precautions will be in place. We ask that everyone social distance and wear a mask when not presenting. Contestants are limited to two guests each if possible.
SCV Group to Honor Mac and Eva Willoughby

The Sons of Confederate Veterans will honor Mac and Eva Willoughby with an informal reception prior to and following the Alexandria Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 12 at 5 p.m. The outside reception is on the east side of the Public Square at 404 East Public Square in Alexandria.
Mac and Eva have moved to Murfreesboro. Former students, friends, co-workers, and the curious are invited to stop by the Sons of Confederate Veterans tent on the east side of the Alexandria Public Square and wish Mac and Eva well. Social distance will be maintained during this event.
DeKalb Firefighter Graduates from Training Academy

Peyton Taylor of the DeKalb County Fire Department graduated from the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Training Academy’s Live Burn Firefighter I class held Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6.
Captain Brian Williams said this 16-hour course requires students to demonstrate skills needed to extinguish a passenger vehicle fire attack, exterior Class A fire attack, interior structure fire attack, commercial buildings and ground cover fire attack.
“We are extremely proud of this recent graduate. Today, our department stands better prepared to respond to emergencies because of the high standards for training we set for our firefighters,” said Captain Williams.
