DeKalb County’s State Lawmakers Address their Stands on Issues before the General Assembly (VIEW VIDEO HERE)

DeKalb County’s state lawmakers in the Tennessee General Assembly stopped by WJLE Thursday to discuss major issues addressed by the Legislature this year.

In a three part video segment, Senator Mark Pody and State Representatives Terri Lynn Weaver and Clark Boyd discussed their stands on issues ranging from the state budget to education and health care to transportation, ethics and judicial reform, among others.

Truck Crashes into Gino’s Barbeque Building

One man was injured Thursday after he lost control of his Chevy pickup truck on West Broad Street and crashed into the side of the building at Gino’s Barbeque.

John Alsup, Jr. was taken by DeKalb EMS to the hospital. Alsup was apparently traveling west when he left the highway and came across the parking lot before hitting the building.

Members of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department responded to help Alsup out of the truck. The crash was investigated by the Smithville Police Department.




DCHS Names Outstanding Students

Outstanding Students of DeKalb County High School have been named.

These young people have been chosen by the faculty as the outstanding students of their class. Isaac Cross and Emme Colwell were named as outstanding juniors and were also chosen by the senior class of 2019 to be the ushers for graduation. Isaac is the son of Tony and Shelly Cross, and Emme is the daughter of Shay and Derek Colwell. Outstanding sophomores are Carly Vance, the daughter of Cheryl and Chris Vance, and Jasper Kleparek, the son of LaTonya and Dylan Kleparek. The freshman outstanding students are Jenna Cantrell and Isaac Knowles. Jenna is the daughter of Amee and Tony Cantrell, and Isaac is the son of Karen and Jared Knowles. Congratulations to these deserving students.
