Ribbon Cutting at Creations by Donna

he Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce had a Ribbon Cutting for new member, Creations by Donna, located at 802 North Congress Blvd., Smithville (across from Village Market Grocery). The owners are Jim and Donna Stapp. This shop offers a great selection of gifts, home décor, and fresh and silk floral designs including cemetery decoration needs, wedding flowers, candy bouquets, candles, diffusers, wind chimes, lake décor, and much more.

Homeless Man Found with Stolen Truck

A 43 year old homeless man was found in Alexandria in possession of a stolen truck last week.
Travis James Beal is charged with theft of property over $1,000. Beal’s bond is $10,000 and his court date is July 5.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Friday, June 22 a deputy was called to Brush Creek Road, Alexandria where a man was passed out in a truck. Upon arrival the officer found the man, Beal in the truck with the ignition on. A computer check revealed that the vehicle was stolen from Kansas. Beal was placed under arrest.
45 year old Kristie Renea Shehane of Granville Drive, Smithville is charged with reckless endangerment and a third offense of driving under the influence. Shehane’s bond is $9,500 and her court date is July 5.
Sheriff Ray said that on Saturday, June 23 a deputy observed a vehicle leave its lane of travel four times on Dale Ridge Road. He conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, Shehane. He noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage about her person. Shehane’s seven year old son was a passenger with her. Shehane performed poorly on field sobriety tasks and she submitted to a blood test.
53 year old James Brian Storie of Poss Road, Smithville is charged with criminal trespassing. His bond is $3,500.
Sheriff Ray said that on Monday, June 18 a deputy was dispatched to Arrow Head Drive due to a reckless driver. Upon arrival, the officer found Storie on the premises. The owner of the property said Storie did not have permission to be there and was not welcomed.
Storie had previously been cited on May 2 for criminal trespassing at the same residence.
Clark Arrested Again for Theft of Vehicle, 16 Days After Allegedly Committing a Similar Offense

A Smithville man arrested earlier this month for stealing a pickup truck has been apprehended again for another vehicle theft.
38 year old Brian Edward Clark of Patterson Road is charged in the latest crime with burglary, theft of property over $1,000, and evading arrest. Clark’s bond in this case is $22,500 and his court date is July 12.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Friday, June 22 a deputy was dispatched to a residence on Possum Hollow Road, Dowelltown in reference to a vehicle theft that had just occurred. The caller stated that Clark had stolen a car. While the officer was enroute, the caller notified central dispatch that Clark had returned the car and left in a red mini-van traveling in the direction of Snow Hill Road. The deputy spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over on Possum Hollow Road but the driver, Clark failed to stop and continued to drive recklessly until he finally pulled over at Snow Hill Road and Highway 70 where he was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
This crime comes sixteen days after Clark was charged with burglary and theft of property over $1,000 for the theft of a pickup truck. His bond on that charge is $10,000.
Sheriff Ray said that on Wednesday, June 6 Clark broke into and stole a 2000 Chevy Silverado on Patterson Road valued at $4,000. The case was investigated by a detective.
Two months ago, Clark ran afoul of the law and was charged with aggravated criminal trespassing after allegedly entering the home of his neighbors without permission.
Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, April 22 a deputy was dispatched to a residence on Patterson Road due to a suspicious person. Upon arrival he spoke with two women who reported that their neighbor, Clark entered their residence without permission. Clark was found at another home on Patterson Road and placed under arrest
Meanwhile in a separate case, 30 year old Eric Jordan Holman of North Village Drive, Sparta is charged with aggravated assault. His bond is $5,000 and his court date is July 12. Sheriff Ray said that on Friday, June 22 Holman went to a residence on Felts Road and caused a woman there to fear for her life by firing five 45 caliber handgun rounds while on the premises.
