Alexandria Police Department Adds K-9 Dog

The Alexandria Police Department is happy to announce the newest officer of the department. K-9 Manci will work with her handler, Officer Brandon Deffendoll. Manci is a 3-year-old German Shepard trained and certified in narcotics detection.

“The Town of Alexandria is happy to welcome Manci to the department,” said Police Chief Travis Bryant. “Officer Deffendoll has been dedicated to the detection and removal of narcotics from our town. Officer Deffendoll and K-9 Manci are certified through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA) and Drug Beat K-9. Officer Deffendoll and K-9 Manci train weekly and have proven themselves to be a valuable tool in the department’s efforts to reduce the amount of drugs in the community. K-9 Manci has an excellent track record for recoveries and has already been successful in Alexandria”

“The Alexandria Police Department has remained committed to working for the citizens of Alexandria and DeKalb County by providing assistance to our sister agencies when needed,” added Chief Bryant.

Alexandria Police recently arrested a Sparta man after he was found with drugs during a traffic stop. The man, 51-year-old Todd Davidson of Cedar Creek Road, Sparta, was also wanted for a parole violation in Putnam County.

Police Chief Travis Bryant said that Davidson is charged with possession of a controlled substance (Mushrooms), possession of schedule IV drugs, and criminal impersonation.

In his latest media release, Chief Bryant reported that Alexandria officers stopped a vehicle on Nashville Highway for a traffic violation. While speaking with Davidson, officers found him to be in possession of a pill bottle in his pocket containing a baggie of a white powdery substance believed to be mushrooms and a Xanax pill. During the interaction the suspect identified himself as 49-year-old Timothy Davidson. Shortly after officers made the identification, Putnam County advised they had a parole violation on him. His court date was set for October 12 and bond is $13,000.

Meanwhile in other cases, Chief Bryant said 45-year-old Kevin Smith of Old Givens Hollow, Liberty is charged with felony evading, reckless endangerment, and driving on a suspended license. According to Chief Bryant, on September 11, officers were patrolling the area of High Street and observed a white Chrysler fail to yield to a stop sign. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect accelerated and turned down Nashville Highway. Officers were able to make a positive identification on the suspect and charges were taken. He was found at his residence later on September 16 and arrested without incident.

39-year-old Terrell Mitchel of River Birch Way, Hermitage is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Chief Bryant said on September 9, officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Nashville Highway. While speaking with the driver, officers discovered him to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

22-year-old Nicholas Allen of Garth Circle, McMinnville is charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug. Chief Bryant said that on September 4, officers were patrolling the area of Nashville Highway and observed a vehicle speeding through the construction zone. Upon making contact with the driver, a strong odor of marijuana was detected. After speaking with the occupants in the vehicle it was discovered that the passenger was in possession of a clear baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

59-year-old Rita Vaughn of Callis Road, Lebanon is charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug. According to Chief Bryant on September 4, officers made contact with a vehicle speeding on Nashville Highway. As officers approached the car, they detected an odor of marijuana and spoke with Vaughn, who was a passenger in the vehicle. After speaking with her, officers discovered a baggie of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

51-year-old Ursula Ketchum of Lavern Street, Alexandria is charged with disorderly conduct. Chief Bryant said that on September 26, Ketchum began disrupting officers while on a traffic stop on Brush Creek Highway. Officers asked her to stop but she refused to comply. Her actions created a hazardous and offensive condition that served no legitimate purpose and created a nuisance. Her court date is set for October 12 and her bond is $1,500.

33-year-old Brandy Moore of Buffalo Valley Road, Silverpoint is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacture, delivery, and sale of meth. According to Chief Bryant officers stopped a vehicle on Nashville Highway for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop they recovered a small amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. Her court date is set for October 12.

25-year-old Kedron Harper of Owendale Drive, Antioch is charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug. Chief Bryant said that on September 23, officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Nashville Highway. Upon speaking with the driver an officer noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Harper was found to be in possession of a partial marijuana cigarette and a bag of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. His court date is set for October 26.

46-year-old Gary Ashford of Goodner Lane, Alexandria is charged with possession of a schedule II drug. According to Chief Bryant on September 27, officers stopped a vehicle on Edgewood Street. After making contact with the passenger, identified as Ashford, officers found him to be in possession of a yellow piece of folded paper containing a powdery substance believed to be heroin or fentanyl. His court date is October 12 and bond was set at $7,500.

20-year-old Kolby Nichols of Hunters Creek, Lebanon is charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug. Chief Bryant said that on September 29, officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Nashville Highway. Upon making contact with the driver, they noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After speaking with Nichols officers found him to be in possession of a bag of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. His court date is set for October 12.

48-year-old Kevin Bogle of Fuston Hollow Road Alexandria was arrested last month for an outstanding warrant from Wilson County. According to Chief Bryant on September 13, officers on patrol observed Bogle in a vehicle within the city limits of Alexandria. Having prior knowledge of the warrant, officers stopped the vehicle and took Bogle into custody without incident. He was transported to Wilson County for booking.

39-year-old Betty Crutchfield of South Maple Street, Lebanon is charged with driving on a revoked license 2nd offense. Chief Bryant said that on September 22, officers observed Crutchfield operating a vehicle on Brush Creek Highway. Officers stopped the vehicle having prior knowledge of her license status and made contact with her. Officers determined her license to be revoked due to a previous DUI conviction. Her court date was set for October 12.

52-year-old Shawn Richardson of Shady Lane, Alexandria is charged with driving on a revoked license 3rd offense. According to Chief Bryant on October 6, officers were patrolling on Edgewood Street when they observed a silver mustang leave its lane of travel. Officers then stopped the vehicle and made contact with Richardson. A computer check revealed that his license was suspended for DUI. He had also been previously convicted of driving on a revoked license on March 3, 2017 and December 4, 2020. His court date is set for October 26 and bond is $3,000.

Quarterback Briz Trapp threw for four touchdowns Friday night, three of them to Marquez Chalfant in leading the DeKalb County Tigers to a 42 to 10 victory over the Cumberland County Jets on Senior Night.

The win snaps a two-game losing skid for the Tigers and evens their season record to 4-4 and 2-2 in region play. Cumberland County drops to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in the region.

DeKalb County will have a bye next week but will travel to White County on October 20 and to Upperman on October 27 to close out the regular season.

The Tigers are still in the state play-off hunt hoping to finish among the top four teams in the Region.

The first of Briz Trapp’s four touchdown throws came with 4:21 left in the 1st period as he found Marquez Chalfant for 34 yards completing a 76-yard drive for the score. Arian Prater converted the PAT and the Tigers led 7-0.

Cumberland County then mounted a drive that stalled at the DC 9-yard line, but Jaime Perez came on for a 26-yard field goal with 11:48 left in the 2nd period and the Jets trailed 7-3.

The Tigers extended their lead on the ensuing kick-off as Ryon Lyons took the ball and raced 95 yards on the return for a touchdown. Prater booted the extra point and DeKalb County held a 14-3 advantage with 11:32 left in the 2nd period.

Briz Trapp found Marquez Chalfant again with 6:28 left in the 2nd period on a 25-yard touchdown pass capping a 68-yard drive. Prater connected on the extra point and the Tigers opened up a 21-3 lead.

After a Tiger fumble, Cumberland County recovered and later cashed in on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Bryson Wilson to Nolan Carter. Jaime Perez converted the PAT and the Jets cut the Tiger lead to 21-10 with 3:16 in the 2nd period.

Cumberland County later lined up for a long field goal attempt near the end of the half but came up empty.

DeKalb County scored three times more times while keeping the Jets scoreless in the second half.

Briz Trapp launched a 28-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Trapp with 9:53 left in the 3rd period completing a 65-yard drive. Prater added the PAT and the Tigers led 28-10.

DC later mounted an 86-yard drive and scored on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Briz Trapp to Marquez Chalfant, their third hookup of the game. Prater came on for the PAT and the Tigers were up 35-10 with 50 seconds left in the 3rd period.

The final score of the night came on a 6-yard touchdown run by Jordan Parker for the Tigers with 6 minutes left in the game, capping a 53-yard drive. Prater booted the extra point and the Tigers went on to claim a 42 to 10 victory.
