A homecoming celebration!
Fresh off a 45-27 homecoming victory over Watertown Thursday night, the DCHS Tiger football team, fellow students, faculty, parents, and fans continued to share in the exuberance Friday afternoon during a big parade.
The motorcade, featuring class and club floats, Homecoming queen Caroline Crook and her court, the Tiger football program and other athletic teams and cheerleaders, Mr and Miss DCHS Jordan Parker and Annabella Dakas, decorated automobiles, emergency vehicles, and more made its way from the high school down West Broad Street and then to South Congress Boulevard over to Smithville Elementary School and then north on Congress Boulevard to Northside Elementary where the DCHS band joined the parade enroute to the public square. The parade concluded with a brief performance by the band and a pep rally led by the Tiger Football Cheerleaders.
The FFA Club won first place in the float competition
Second place went to the Senior Class float
The Junior Class float took third place
In the best decorated vehicle category, Chase Vaughn in a Kia Optima won first place. Mara Oakley in a Kia Soul took second place and Cheyenne Martin in a 1972 F100 got third place. Adison Summers in a Dodge Ram received honorable mention
DCHS Voyles Classic Cross Country Invitational

The DCHS Cross Country team competed in the Voyles Classic on Saturday, September 7th, which was held on the rolling acres of Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage Estate. The race brought in 71 high school teams all across Tennessee, with a field of 991 boys and 752 girl runners, making it the largest meet in Tennessee this season.
The Tigers were led by Ben Driver and senior Cale Brown. Driver finished the 5K course with a personal best of 19:27, followed by Brown 21:20. Rounding up the Tigers included Kaine Salas 22:20, Michael Gamble 24:03, Ethan Spears 24:10, Dan Rodgers 29:07 and Vaden Trexler 29:08.
Emily Fry had a personal best showing with a time of 24:26, leading the Lady Tigers. Followed closely behind was senior, Mylie Phillips 25:22, and senior Madeline Martin 28:33.
Nimmons Gets Six Year Sentence in Child Sex Crime

A 64-year-old man is going to prison for a sex crime involving a child.
Robert Nimmons appeared in DeKalb County Criminal Court Tuesday where he entered a plea to three counts of attempted aggravated sexual battery and two counts of solicitation of a minor. He received a six year sentence in each case to run concurrently but he will have to serve 100% of the sentence. Nimmons was given jail credit from August 15, 2023 to September 10, 2024.
The sex crimes involved a child under 13 years of age at the time in 2023.
Nimmons was originally charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of solicitation of a minor.
Meanwhile 29-year-old Anthony Tate Miller entered a plea by criminal information to sale of a schedule II-controlled substance (methamphetamine) over 0.5 grams. The offense occurred on June 17, 2024. Miller received an eight-year sentence all suspended to TDOC supervised probation except for 85 days for which he has already received jail credit. He was also fined $2,000.
