WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters College Football Talk Show Airs Today (Wednesday) at 4:30 p.m.

Ricky Atnip remains the leader among WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters picking college football winners.

Atnip has the best overall record at 133-47 followed by Jared Davis at 129-51, Grant James 127-53, John Pryor 122-58, Scott Brown 119-61, Darrell Gill and Scott Goodwin each at 118-62, and Chad Kirby 116-64.

For the week, Jared Davis and Scott Goodwin tied for the best record at 10-5 followed by Darrell Gill, Grant James, Ricky Atnip, Chad Kirby, and John Pryor each at 9-6 and Scott Brown at 8-7.

Two Fearless Forecasters hit their underdog picks last week. Ricky Atnip added 6 points to his total with Houston’s 42-3 win over East Carolina and Chad Kirby got on the board with 16.5 points as Navy defeated UCF 17-14.

Overall, Ricky Atnip leads in underdog points with 32.5 followed by Jared Davis with 23.5, Scott Goodwin 21.5, Darrell Gill 17.5, Scott Brown and John Pryor each with 17, Chad Kirby 16.5, and Grant James with 11.

Today (Wednesday) the Forecasters will be picking winners in the following games:

Lady Tigers Stay Perfect with Win at Cannon County while Tigers Lose Close One to Lions

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers have run their season record to 4-0 after defeating the Cannon County Lionettes at Woodbury Tuesday night 56 to 53.

The game between the Tigers and Lions went right down to the wire with Cannon County scoring the winning bucket in the closing seconds handing DeKalb County a 44 to 42 defeat, the first of the season for the Tigers who are now 3-1.

DeKalb County will host Warren County Friday night in Smithville. The girls game will tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

The Lady Tigers trailed Cannon County 9 to 4 after the 1st period before grabbing a 25 to 22 advantage by halftime. The Lady Tigers maintained the edge leading 38 to 37 after the 3rd period and went onto claim a 56 to 53 victory.

Ella VanVranken scored 18 followed by Avery Agee with 12, Dare Collins 8, Tess Barton 7, Maddison Martin 5, Chloe VanVranken 4, and Cadee Griffith 2.

The Tigers led 19 to 14 after the 1st period of the boys game and held a 29 to 26 lead at halftime. DC led 38 to 35 after the 3rd period but Cannon County outscored the Tigers in the 4th period 9 to 4 and won 44 to 42.

Stetson Agee scored 12, Robert Wheeler 10, Conner Close 9, Elishah Ramos 8, and Zach Birmingham with 3.

DeKalb Local Option Sales Tax Collections Remain Strong

DeKalb County’s share of local option sales tax collections for October 2022 outperformed the same month in 2021 by more than $9,700 according to the Tennessee Department of Revenue. For the county and the four cities therein combined collections were up by more than $53, 000.

According to the report, DeKalb County brought in $156,092 in October 2022 compared to $146,377 in October 2021.

Three of the four cities within DeKalb County also hauled in more local option sales tax revenue. The exception was Alexandria.

The comparisons between the two months for each municipality are as follows:

Smithville: $365,386 (October, 2022), $319,172 (October 2021)

Alexandria: $25,383 (October, 2022), $36,368 (October 2021)

Dowelltown: $2,884 (October, 2022), $2,818 (October, 2021)

Liberty: $16,705 (October, 2022), $8,519 (October, 2021)

NET COLLECTIONS (LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX): $566,452 (October, 2022), $513,255 (October, 2021)
