Thirty three of the 62 petitions issued for the 2022 elections have been filed with the DeKalb County Election Commission, the first step in the process of persons becoming a qualified candidate.
Two persons have picked up petitions so far this week including Steve Randall Merriman, who plans to run in the Republican Primary for County Commissioner in the 5th district, and Wayne Cantrell who intends to be an Independent candidate in the August County General Election for County Commissioner in District 4.
The 33 candidates who have filed their qualifying petitions with the election commission to date are as follows:

DCHS Freshman Registration Parent Nights are Monday & Tuesday

DCHS Freshman Registration Parent Night will be held, Monday, January 31, 2022 from 5:30PM-6:30PM and Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 5:30PM-6:30PM in the DCHS cafeteria. It is very important that every student and parent or guardian attend. Students and parents will also choose the courses that their student will take in high school their 9th grade year. Students are divided by homerooms. If you cannot attend on your scheduled night, please attend on the other night. If you cannot attend either night, please contact DCHS School Counselor Shelly Painter at shellypainter@dekalbschools.net or 615-597-2247. Monday, January 31, 2022 – The homerooms of Hendrix, H. Poteete, J. Poteete, Odom, Bratton, & France will meet. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 – The homerooms of Brown, Jacobs, Jones, Agee, and Leslie will meet.

The DeKalb County Tigers avenged a December loss to the White County Warriors Tuesday night in Smithville winning 61 to 45. White County swept the season series with the Lady Tigers with a 67 to 56 victory.

The Tigers (11-9 overall and 3-5 in the district) and the Lady Tigers (13-9, 3-5) will travel to Livingston Academy Friday night, January 28. The girls game tips off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
The girls game Tuesday night was tied at 17 after the 1st period. White County held a 43 to 30 halftime lead and was up 50 to 40 after the 3rd period before going on to win 67 to 56.
For the Lady Tigers Ferrell scored 19, Ella VanVranken 16, Madison Martin 10, Avery Agee 6, Ella Hendrixson 3, and Xharia Lyons 2.
The Tigers led 12 to 5 after the 1st period, 20 to 16 at halftime, and 36 to 24 after the 3rd period before claiming a 61 to 45 victory.
Elishah Ramos scored 19, Conner Close 17, Isaac Knowles 9, Stetson Agee 6, Jordan Young and Robert Wheeler each with 4 and Brayden Antoniak 2.
In the previous meeting on December 14 at Sparta, the Tigers lost to the Warriors 53 to 37 and the Lady Tigers fell 83 to 29.
