Sparta Man Indicted for Aggravated Child Abuse

A 31 year old Sparta man accused of seriously injuring a 4 year old child resulting in a bone fracture has been indicted by the DeKalb County Grand Jury for aggravated child abuse.
Charles David Woody is under a $50,000 bond and will be arraigned in DeKalb County Criminal Court on July 14. He was named in a sealed indictment returned by the grand jury earlier this month and was arrested within the past week.
On May 9th, the indictment alleges that Woody did unlawfully, knowingly, and other than by accidental means, inflict injury upon a 4 year old child resulting in serious bodily injury, : to wit: bone fracture thereby committing the offense of aggravated child abuse.

Part of the fun of the Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival over the years is the shade tree picking or sidewalk picking as was the case with a band the day before last year’s festival.

The Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree & Crafts Festival has cancelled their LIVE music competition this year due to challenges presented by Covid-19, opting to create an innovative Virtual Jamboree for the first time in 49 years.
Man Assaults Co-Worker with Pipe

Smithville Police have charged a man with aggravated assault after he allegedly hit a co-worker across the head with a pipe at a local industry last Thursday.
40 year old Quincy M. Bledsoe of 511 South College Street is under a $5,000 bond and he will be in court July 23.
According to the police report, officers responded to the industry in reference to a fight. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with several people and were advised that there had been an altercation between two employees. The officer observed the victim laying on the ground bleeding from the head. The suspect, Bledsoe, had left on foot. The officer reviewed video surveillance footage and observed Bledsoe approach the victim from behind and strike him in the head with a pipe. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that there had been disagreements between both parties throughout the afternoon.
