There will be two contested Board of Education races in 2022 but not until the August 4 DeKalb County General Election.

Voters in district 1, 2, 3, 4, & 7 will elect a school board member. The terms are for 4 years.

Today at noon (February 17) was the qualifying deadline.

The candidates have met the signature requirements to be placed on the ballot pending approval from the respective political parties. Since the May elections are primary elections, the state political parties have the final say in vetting candidates.

There are no Democratic or Republican candidates for the Board of Education in District 1 but Incumbent Danny Parkerson will be running unopposed as an Independent for re-election in the August 4 General Election.

Incumbent school board member Jim Beshearse in District 3 will be unopposed in the May 3 GOP Primary as well as the August 4 General Election.

Three people will be in the race in August to succeed Incumbent school board member Kate Miller in District 4 who is not seeking re-election. Scott Little, in the Democratic Primary on May 3, and Eric Ervin in the GOP May 3 Primary, are unopposed but they will be challenged by Independent Tony Poss in the August 4 General Election.

Incumbent school board member Shaun Tubbs in District 7 will be running for re-election as an Independent in the August 4 General Election. He will face opposition from Republican Ryan Mollinet who is unopposed in the May 3 GOP primary.
