Closure of Center Hill Recreation Area begins evening of April 7

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is closing Center Hill Lake Recreation Area, also known as Ike Park. The ramp, shelters, and restroom facilities are scheduled to be closed 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 through April 8, 2021 for a Corps of Engineers hosted event.
Alternative launching ramps closest to Center Hill Recreation Area includes: Floating Mill Recreation Area, Edgar Evins State Park, Hurricane Bridge Recreation Area, and Center Hill Marina.
The recreation area will be fully reopened to the public April 9, 2021. If inclement weather conditions with lighting are predicted, the ramp will remain open to the public April 7 and 8.

Nineteen people indicted by DeKalb County Grand Jury

Nineteen people were indicted by the DeKalb County Grand Jury Monday including two named in sealed indictments. The names of those two have not yet been released.
Arraignment day for defendants indicted Monday will be next Monday, April 5 at 9 a.m. in DeKalb County Criminal Court.

Sarah Opal Atnip: Vandalism over $2,500
Lavar Kinte Bass: Domestic assault, evading arrest, DUI 3rd offense, DUI per se, and driving on a revoked license 7th offense
Tina Lynn Cazee: Vandalism under $1,000
Warren Brandon Glasby: Theft over $2,500 and vandalism over $1,000
Aubrey Lee Kilgore: DUI 4th offense, driving on a revoked license, simple possession of methamphetamine

Markus Jay Majka: Possession with intent to sell or deliver over .5 grams of methamphetamine, driving on a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia

Easter Eggstravaganza at DeKalb Animal Shelter
You are invited to an Easter Eggstravaganza Saturday, April 3 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the DeKalb Animal Shelter sponsored by the Friends of the DeKalb Animal Shelter organization featuring ongoing yard games, face painting, and raffle baskets. All garbage collection routes in the City of Smithville, both residential and business, for Friday, April 2 will be run Monday, April 5 due to Good Friday.
Courthouse and County Offices to be Closed for Good Friday
The DeKalb County Courthouse, County Complex County Offices, and Senior Center will be closed Friday, April 2, 2021 in observance of Good Friday. The County Clerk’s Office will be closed Saturday, April 3, 2021.

The Smithville Mayor and Aldermen will meet in regular monthly session Monday, April 5 at 6 p.m. ay city hall.

DeKalb County Retired Teachers to Meet
The DeKalb County Retired Teachers will meet on Wednesday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at the UT/TSU Extension Room at the County Complex. Attendees should practice social distancing and wear face masks.
Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp to host Historical Program
The public is invited to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1513 on April 8, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. at the County Complex, UT Extension Room, to welcome Richard Garcia, Camp Commander of the Camp 1685. Commander Garcia will present an historical program, Blood on the Rio Grande – Tejano Confederates. The 8th Texas Infantry was comprised of numerous soldiers of Mexican decent including Commander Garcia’s great-great grandfather. Come learn his story and the story of others like him. Social distancing will be observed during the meeting.

A DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive will be Monday, April 26 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. at the County Complex in front of the Senior Citizens Center inside the Bloodmobile. Alexandria Firefighters Association Benefit Ride
The Alexandria Firefighters Association Benefit Ride will be Saturday, May 22 at 33840 Nashville Highway, Alexandria supported by Silent Creed Motorcycle Club and Bikers for Christ. Motorcycle Ride: All bikes welcome. Registration 9-10 a.m. Kickstands up at 10 a.m. $20- driver. Passenger free but food not included. Approximately 2 hour scenic ride. Fee includes meal at the end of the ride (BBQ or hotdog, chips, and drink. Food Tent for the public featuring BBQ by Fireman 1 Bar-B-Que. THP to conduct Sobriety Checkpoint
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint on April 9th,2021 on State Route 56 in Dekalb County. Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists. The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.
Dixie Belle’s hosts fundraiser for DeKalb Animal Shelter/Coalition
A local business is hosting a fundraiser for the DeKalb Animal Shelter/Coalition. Dixie Belle’s at 464 West Broad Street in Smithville is giving you a chance to win an 8 x 10 inch framed autographed picture of Country Star Aaron Tippin along with two autographed VIP ticket stubs and an Aaron Tippin Greatest Hits CD. DeKalb County School Calendar
The remainder of the 2020-21 school calendar shows that Thursday, May 2 will be an administrative day with no school for students. Friday, May 21 will be the last day of school for the year and report cards will be sent home.
Graduation for the Class of 2021 will be Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m. on the high school football field.
The DCHS prom date will be April 9 at the Capital Theatre in Lebanon.
DeKalb Health Department Moving COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic to Fairgrounds in Alexandria
The DeKalb County Health Department has moved its Covid vaccine location to the Alexandria Fairgrounds (102 Fairgrounds Rd, Alexandria, TN 37012). First and second doses will be given at this location.
Their hours of operation will be as followed:
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will be from 9am-3pm
Tuesdays will be 7am-3pm
Thursdays will be 9am-6pm

Annual Meeting for Banks Cemetery
The annual meeting for Banks Cemetery in DeKalb County will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 @ 2:00 p.m. at Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church. All parties interested in the cemetery are invited to attend.
DCHS Project Graduation Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show
A car, truck, and motorcycle show will be held to benefit the DCHS Class of 2021 Project Graduation event on Saturday, April 3 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at DeKalb County High School.
All funds raised will go to Project Graduation, an all night drug-free, alcohol-free graduation party for members of the DCHS Class of 2021 committed to having a safe, wholesome, yet entertaining celebration together for the last time as a class. This year’s event will be held at the County Complex. The show will feature top 25 People’s Choice Awards, Best of Show, the DCHS Class of 2021 Seniors Pick, and Most Unique Pick. There will be more than 40 vendors and plenty of food, face painting, plus much more including a DJ. Vendors must sign up by March 29.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with judging at noon and awards to be presented at 3 p.m.

UCHRA Commodities Distribution
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, April 29, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign up will be available at the distribution site. This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.
DeKalb Health Department Covid-19 Testing Hours
COVID-19 PCR testing at the DeKalb County Health Department is now being offered by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Everlywell self-tests will still be offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9-11 am without an appointment.
