The DeKalb Animal Shelter has been home to “Tara” for a long time. In fact, she has been there longer than any other cat. Tara now needs a loving family to give her a forever home.

“Tara is about a year and three months old and she is the mother to two of our kittens that we also have here. Tara has officially been here the longest out of all the other cats. She is super sweet and gets along well with other cats. Tara loves kids. She loves everybody. Tara is ready for a home,” said Shelter employee Emmaly Bennett.
“To adopt Tara, go to our website. www.dekalbanimalcoalition.org and look for a tab to fill out an application. Fill it out and email it back to us. We will call to set up an appointment time for you to come in and meet Tara to see if she is a perfect fit for you,” said Bennett.
The DeKalb Animal Shelter is currently only open by appointment due to Covid-19.
“If you are interested in any of our dogs and cats fill out an adoption application and send it to our email. We will call and set up a time for you to come in and meet your favorite pet and go from there. We are not currently open to the public for in-person visits but all our pets are posted online. Stay up to date with us on our website, facebook page, or Instagram,” said Shelter Director Megan Moore.

June is National Dairy Month
On Friday, June 5th, County Mayor Tim Stribling signed a proclamation to officially designate June as Dairy Month in DeKalb County. Ansley Cantrell, the 4-H June Dairy Month chairperson, witnessed the signing, and the event was celebrated with a milkshake.
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS dairy farmers have contributed to the development and well-being of DeKalb County since the earliest formation of DeKalb County.
WHEREAS, the dairy industry is a major industry in Tennessee, a significant contribution to the economy.
WHEREAS, milk and dairy foods provide health benefits and valuable nutrients; and
WHEREAS, real milk and dairy foods are superiors to their imitations in quality, values, and taste; and
WHEREAS, the 83rd celebration of June Dairy Month, highlighting the dairy industry, will occur during 2020;
Now, therefore, be it resolved by Tim Stribling, mayor of DeKalb County, that June 2020 is designated to the celebration of June Dairy Month, and I call upon all the government agencies and the people of DeKalb County in order to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities.
DeKalb County 4-H has many activities planned, but due to recent health concerns, they will be mostly virtual. There will be an art contest, virtual tours, trivia, recipes, and more, as well as a dairy food drive. Be sure to “Like” 2020 DeKalb County June Dairy Month Adventures on Facebook to see themed daily posts. You may also call 615-597-4945 for more information. Drink more milk!
Biker Airlifted After Saturday Crash

A man on a motorcycle was airlifted Saturday after plunging down an embankment off Dale Ridge Road in the Cove Hollow area.
Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 67 year old Edward Presnar of Gallatin was on a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling north on Dale Ridge Road when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the highway hitting several trees as he plunged about 30 feet down a steep wooded hillside.
Fire and rescue volunteers brought Presnar back up to the highway where he was loaded onto an ambulance and transported to a helicopter landing zone and then airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital.
