Smithville Mayor and Aldermen to Meet

The Smithville Mayor and Aldermen will meet in regular monthly session on Monday, January 6 at 6 p.m. at city hall.

The agenda is as follows:

Board’s approval of a resolution to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to replace existing sewer lines

Approval of 2020 Smithville Volunteer Fire Officers

Report on the Local Government Investment Pool

Update on West Main Street parking

The City of Smithville will hold a public hearing to consider rezoning properties at 712 and 714 Fisher Avenue

Any other business brought properly before the Board




DCHS Tigers and Lady Tigers to Host Cookeville Today (Saturday) Starting at 2 p.m.

The DCHS Basketball teams will be back in action today (Saturday) as they play host to Cookeville.

The start time has been changed. The girls game, originally scheduled for 6:00 p.m., has been moved to 2:00 p.m. to be followed by the boys game. WJLE will have LIVE coverage with the Voice of the Tigers and Lady Tigers John Pryor.

In the last meeting on December 14, the Lady Tigers lost at Cookeville 50-40 while the Tigers were defeated 76 to 65. The Tigers also faced Cookeville in the Aflac Christmas Tournament at Watertown and lost 67 to 46 on December 20.

The Lady Tigers have just returned from Florida where they won the championship of the Sunshine Classic or the Daytona Beach Shootout after beating Larue County, Kentucky 42-28, Jasper Place, Canada 38-31, Dutchtown, Georgia 47-28, and Pulaski County, Kentucky 39-29.

Kadee Ferrell was named Most Valuable Player while Emme Colwell, Mya Ruch, and Megan Walker were named to the All Tournament Team.

The Tigers meanwhile went 1-2 in the Aflac Christmas Tournament at Watertown High School over the holidays losing to Lebanon 86-42 and to Cookeville 67 to 46 before beating Moore County 58-48.

The Tigers have a record of 4-8 (1-2 in the district) while the Lady Tigers are now 7-6 and (1-2 in the district).
