DCHS Lady Tigers Crowned Champions of Daytona Beach Shootout

The DCHS Lady Tigers are Champions of the 30th annual Daytona Beach Shootout after beating Pulaski County, Kentucky 39-29 Monday
According to Coach Danny Fish, the Lady Tigers had a 15-10 lead after the 1st quarter but in the second quarter DC was plagued by foul trouble with Emme Colwell and Megan Walker having to sit on the bench for over 5:00 minutes. The Lady Tigers did get solid support from Megan Cantrell, Grace Griffin and Summer Crook off the bench and were able to take a 17-13 advantage into the half. DeKalb County started the 3rd period on a 14-6 run which included four 3-point baskets in the quarter. Going into the 4th period with a 31-19 lead the Lady Tigers dismantled the 1-1-3 zone of Pulaski and went on to win 39-29.
Emme Colwell led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 13, Kadee Ferrell had 12, Megan Walker 7, Mya Ruch had 5, and Kenzie France with 2.
Kadee Ferrell was named Most Valuable Player while Emme Colwell, Mya Ruch, and Megan Walker were named to the All Tournament Team.
Man Assaults Another While Trying to Steal Pain Medication

A man who assaulted another while trying to steal his pain medication will make a court appearance next week.
44 year old Darrell Wayne Crook of 307 South 3rd Street was arrested for domestic assault. Police were called to Crook’s home due to a domestic complaint and upon arrival found the victim on the floor. The officer learned that Crook tried to steal the victim’s pain medication and when confronted he grabbed and threw him to the ground. The victim was taken to the hospital by EMS. Bond for Crook is $4,500 and his court date is January 9.
23 year old Kathleen Nicole Thomas of 236 Meadow Brook Drive was arrested on December 16 for criminal trespassing. Police were called to 701 South Mountain Street due to an unwanted guest and upon arrival observed Thomas sitting on the front porch. Family members inside the house informed the officer that Thomas was not welcome there. Police had been called earlier in the day to remove Thomas from the property but she left before they arrived only to return later. When Thomas refused to leave this time, she was placed under arrest. Bond for Thomas is $2,500 and her court date is January 9.
35 year old Joshua R. Cripps of 118 Steeple Chase Road was cited on December 20 for possession of drug paraphernalia. Police were called to 118 Steeple Chase Road due to an unwanted guest and upon arrival found Cripps inside the residence passed out at the kitchen table. A family member showed the officer a brown paper bag that Cripps had brought inside with him that contained a scale, four hypodermic needles and four spoons with white residue on them. Cripps’ court date is January 16.
46 year old Michael Lance Chancey of 509 South College Street was arrested on December 21 for public intoxication. Police were called to 509 South College Street due to an unwanted guest who was intoxicated. Upon arrival the officer confronted the man, Chancey outside by the stairs and he could smell an alcoholic beverage on his person. Chancey’s speech was slurred. He had been discharged from the halfway house earlier in the day but would not leave. According to police Chancey kept causing problems with other tenants still living there. Bond for Chancey is $1,500 and his court date is January 20.
36 year old Jacob Owen Lackey of 201 North Wilson Street was arrested on December 22 for driving under the influence, driving on revoked and he was cited for leaving the scene of an accident. Lackey was involved in a hit and run accident on Jennings Lane where he struck a parked car and then almost hit another vehicle head-on enroute to McDonalds. The officer confronted Lackey after observing him exit his vehicle in the McDonald’s parking lot. Lackey smelled of alcohol and police discovered that he had been drinking earlier in the day. A computer check with central dispatch revealed Lackey’s license to be revoked for a prior DUI conviction in 2009 in Henry County. Bond for Lackey is $3,000 and his court date is January 9.
20 year old Alexis Hope Frederick of 1481 Jefferson Road was cited on December 24 for theft of property. While at Kwik-N-Ezy an off-duty officer observed Frederick conceal 2 Gatorade drinks under her shirt. Her court date is January 23.
34 year old Danny Ray Prater of McMinnville was arrested on December 27 for resisting stop, halt, frisk, arrest, or search. Police were called to 323 Wade Street due to a suspicious person. Upon arrival police confronted the man, Prater but as the officer tried to talk to him, Prater replied that he didn’t have anything to say and began walking away. Police again ordered Prater to stop but he would not comply until the officer pointed his taser at him. Prater resisted as police tried to detain him but they eventually got handcuffs on Prater and placed him in custody. Bond for Prater is $3,500 and his court date is January 9.
Woman assaults her boyfriend with a broom

A woman who assaulted her boyfriend with a broom during a domestic disturbance on Christmas Day will be in court January 9.
46 year old Jennifer Sue Pitt of Lee Braswell Road, Smithville is charged with domestic assault. Her bond is $2,500.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on December 25 a deputy was called to Pitt’s residence due to a domestic disturbance and upon arrival he spoke with both Pitt and her boyfriend who admitted that they had gotten into an altercation which turned physical as Pitt struck him about the head several times with a broom leaving cuts and knots on his head. When she saw her boyfriend bleeding from the assault, Pitt said she called EMS . Pitt had no physical marks on her and she was determined to have been the primary aggressor.
