Santa Makes Another Parade Appearance In Alexandria (VIEW VIDEO HERE)

Santa made another appearance in DeKalb County on Sunday for the Alexandria Christmas Parade.

A small crowd of folks braved a cold drizzle downtown and along Main Street to catch a glimpse of Santa and all the other attractions of the parade.

The parade made its way into town led by Alexandria Police Chief Chris Russell followed by Sheriff Patrick Ray. The Parade also featured floats, the DCHS band, vintage automobiles, farm tractors, four wheelers and motorcycles, fire trucks, Tennessee Division of Forestry and Smoky the Bear, Smithville- DeKalb Rescue Squad, DeKalb EMS, horseback riders, horse drawn wagon, Santa Claus, and more.

In the floats category, the West Main Baptist Church won for their entry “True love was born in a manger and died on a cross”. Second place went to Wilson Bank & Trust.

For best vintage automobiles, Derek Carter took 1st place for his 1995 Nissan 240sx drift car. Dillon Sullivan received second place for his 1985 Monte Carlo SS.

In the miscellaneous category, Randy Slager won 1st place and Tommy Hale took 2nd place.

THP Investigating Fatal Hit and Run

The body of a 51 year old man was found on Highway 70 in front of DeKalb Middle School early this morning (Sunday) the victim of a fatal hit and run.

Dead is Gyula Gulyas of Brush Creek and originally from Hungary.

According to Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a motorist spotted the body lying in the highway around 2:40 a.m. and reported it to 911. Its not known exactly what time the hit and run occurred.

Trooper Johnson said Gulyas had been at Twisted Oaks on Highway 70 earlier and as he started to leave the parking lot his Kia Soul got stuck in a ditch. Gulyas later got a ride into town and was dropped off near the hospital. That was the last reported sighting of Gulyas alive.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has not yet found the person or vehicle responsible for the hit and run but believe the automobile was a silver colored 2006 to 2010 model Jeep Commander SUV  because of paint chips and pieces of a front grill found on the highway near the body.

DeKalb Firefighter Completes Training Class

Justin Coats, a member of the DeKalb County Fire Department graduated from the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Training Academy’s Live Burn Firefighter I class held Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8.

Captain Brian Williams said this 16-hour course requires students to demonstrate skills needed to extinguish a passenger vehicle fire attack, exterior Class A fire attack, interior structure fire attack, commercial buildings and ground cover fire attack. “We are extremely proud of this recent graduate. Today, our department stands better prepared to respond to emergencies because of the high standards for training we set for our firefighters,” said Captain Brian Williams.
