New Smithville Mayor and Aldermen-Elect to Take Oath of Office Friday, August 31

The City of Smithville will have a new mayor starting next Saturday, September 1.

Josh Miller, who has served as alderman since 2013, will be sworn into office as mayor on Friday, August 31 at 4 p.m. at city hall.

Miller defeated incumbent Mayor Jimmy W. Poss on Thursday, August 2. Mayor Poss was first elected to a two year term in 2012 and then to a four year term in 2014.

Meanwhile Aldermen-elect Gayla Hendrix and Brandon Cox, who were elected unopposed on August 2 will also be sworn into office next Friday, August 31.

Cox, a local attorney, is a political newcomer. Hendrix, an incumbent alderman and attorney, will begin a new term.

The terms of the Mayor and Aldermen are four years.




Saints Celebrate Homecoming Win over Smith County

The DeKalb Saints defeated Smith County 34-8 for homecoming Thursday evening.

In the video clip below, Saints Quarterback Brizz Trapp hands off to Colby Barnes who races for the endzone in the 2nd period to give the Saints a 14-8 lead.

Before the game, Kylee Cantrell was crowned the 2018 DeKalb Saints Homecoming Queen. An eighth grader at DeKalb Middle School, Cantrell is the daughter of Paul and Michelle Cantrell.

The DeKalb Middle School eighth grade attendants are Morgan Walker, daughter of Jason and Renee Walker; and Carlee West, daughter of D.J. and Megan Stewart.

The DMS seventh grade attendants are Cadee Griffith, daughter of Chris and Jennifer Griffith; and Elaina Turner, daughter of Shane and Regina Turner.

The DeKalb West seventh grade attendant is Kayleigh Overstreet, daughter of Jennifer Johnson and the late Billy Overstreet. The DeKalb West eighth grade attendant is Aly Griffith, daughter of Ron and Mindy Griffith.

The Saints, 3-0, will travel to Trousdale County next Thursday night, August 28. Kick-off is at 6:30 p.m.




The Pharmacy at Family Medical Center Schedules Grand Opening

Susannah Cripps Daughtry and Collin A. Cantrell are coming home to DeKalb County with the opening of the Pharmacy at Family Medical Center in Smithville.

Susannah, Collin, and the staff of The Pharmacy At Family Medical Center cordially invite you to join them for their Grand Opening on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Come and visit your hometown pharmacists and their attentive and friendly staff and enjoy good barbecue, live music, and plenty of laughter. The Grand Opening celebration begins at 2:00  p.m. at The Pharmacy, next door to Family Medical Center on North Congress Boulevard.

Pharmacists, Susannah and Collin, are both natives of Smithville, and both have deep roots in our community. Susannah is the daughter of the late Gary and Susan Cripps, and Collin is the son of Boyd and Brenda Cantrell. Susannah and Collin have been practicing pharmacy elsewhere for years, and both are thrilled to be returning home at last!

While growing up in Smithville, both Susannah and Collin worked with Susannah’s father, Gary Cripps, pharmacist and owner of Family Medical Center Pharmacy. Susannah and Collin are eager to provide their hometown with the same knowledgeable, friendly, and dedicated service their friends and neighbors relied upon for so many years from Gary Cripps.
