“Justice” just in time for Valentine’s Day!

If he could talk “Justice” might just say “Please be my Valentine”!

Justice, a 10-month-old Shepherd mix is the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured Pet of the Week and he would be a great addition to your family in time for Valentine’s Day.

“Justice is super energetic, very friendly, playful, and outgoing. He would make for a very good pet for an active family,” said Laura Parsley of the DeKalb Animal Shelter. “Justice is already neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, de-worming, microchipping, and flea and tick treatments so he is ready to go home today. His adoption fee is $200 which covers all of his vetting. Feel free to come out to meet him,” said Parsley.

One Injured in Rollover Crash

A 63-year-old man was injured Saturday in a crash on Johnson Chapel Road.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Richard Alan Curtis was traveling west on Johnson Chapel Road in a 2013 GMC Sierra when he failed to negotiate a curve causing the vehicle to go off the right side of the roadway and overturn before coming to a final rest on the right side.

The DeKalb County Fire Department responded to the crash and issued the following statement:

“Today (Saturday) at approximately 2:08 p.m., the DeKalb County Fire Department was called to Johnson Chapel Road for a vehicle that went off a retaining wall with a person trapped inside the vehicle”.

“Upon arrival, the DeKalb County Fire Department’s vehicle rescue technicians stabilized the automobile and assisted DeKalb Emergency Medical Service staff in removing the patient from the vehicle. No other injuries were reported”.

“Units responding to the scene were Brush 1, Extrication Unit 51, DeKalb Emergency Medical Services, DeKalb Sheriff’s Officers and Tennessee Highway Patrol,” the statement concluded”.




Motorist found with Meth during traffic stop

A motorist was found with methamphetamine during a traffic stop earlier this month.

55-year-old Curtis Lee Adams of Midway Road, Smithville is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. His bond is $25,000 and he will be in court February 22.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on February 3 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford car for failure to maintain its lane of travel. The officer asked the driver, Adams to step out of the vehicle and during a pat down search, the deputy found on him a clear baggie with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine which weighed 3.64 grams.

53-year-old Johnny Darrell Murphy of Andrew Street, Smithville is charged with two counts of domestic assault. His bond is $8,000 and he will be in court February 22.

Sheriff Ray said that on February 6 Murphy allegedly struck his girlfriend causing injury to her right ear and right elbow. On the same date, Murphy is alleged to have struck his daughter across the right side of her face, knocking her glasses off and causing redness to her face.

43-year-old Christie Dawn Bouldin of Sparta is charged with public intoxication and resisting stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search. She is under a $5,500 bond and her court date is February 22.

Sheriff Ray said that on February 7 a deputy was summoned to Holmes Creek Road due to a possible domestic incident and spoke with Bouldin who was acting erratically, talking out of her head, and she appeared to be under the influence. After a brief foot pursuit, the officer ordered Bouldin to get on the ground, but she resisted and then jumped in the lake and swam to the other side. The officer walked around to that side of the lake and subsequently placed Bouldin in custody, although she continued to resist.

32-year-old Joshua Alan Tipton of Kings Court, Smithville is charged with public intoxication. His bond is $2,000 and he will make a court appearance February 22.

Sheriff Ray said that on February 7 a deputy was dispatched to Dearman Street to perform a welfare check on a man spotted sitting on the side of the road wearing no shirt. Upon arrival the officer found the man, Tipton and observed that he could not stand still. His eyes were dilated, and he could not engage the officer in conversation. He was thought to be under the influence of narcotics.

41-year-old Justin Keith Liggett of Pumpkin Hollow Road, Dowelltown is charged with violation of an order of protection. His bond is $3,500 and he will be in court February 29.

Sheriff Ray said that on February 8 a deputy arrested Liggett for violation of an order of protection after he was found to be at a home on Parkway Drive with the person he was ordered to keep away from.
