A week dedicated to celebrating emergency service workers is being recognized in DeKalb County.

The community relies on emergency workers to rush to the rescue, no matter what the circumstance.

County Mayor Tim Stribling has signed a proclamation designating May 20-26 as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in DeKalb County. EMS Director Hoyte Hale joined County Mayor Stribling for the occasion.

The proclamation is as follows:

“Whereas, Emergency Medical Services is a vital public service; and

Whereas, the members of Emergency Medical Teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and

Whereas, access to quality Emergency Care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and

Whereas, the Emergency Medical Services system consists of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators, and others; and

Whereas, the members of Emergency Medical Services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of Emergency Medical Services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week;

Now, Therefore, I Tim Stribling, County Mayor, DeKalb County, Tennessee, in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim the week of May 20-26, 2018 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

With the theme, EMS, YOUR LIFE OUR MISSION, I encourage the community to observe this week with the appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities”.

The season ended for the DCHS Tigerettes Saturday with a 7 to 4 loss to Sweetwater in the Class AA Sub-State or Sectionals in Smithville.

Sweetwater scored 7 runs on 13 hits and made no errors. DeKalb County scored 4 runs on 6 hits and made no errors.

Sweetwater scored 1 run in the 1st inning and 3 runs in the 5th and 6th innings. DeKalb County scored 1 run in the 1st and 2nd innings and 2 runs in the 3rd inning.

Kenzie France was the losing pitcher.

Kenzie France had a homerun. Megan Walker had 2 singles. Jonie Robinson and Kenzie France singled and Kristena Bain had a double.

The Tigerettes conclude the season at 23-12 and 11-3 in the district. They won both the District and Regional Tournament Championships.

Two people caught inside someone else’s home have been charged with aggravated criminal trespassing.

36 year old Sherry Gunter of Shady Drive, Smithville and 42 year old Darrell Wayne Newby of McMinnville were arrested after they were discovered at a home on Neil Drive. Gunter and Newby were also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession of a schedule II drug (0.06 grams of methamphetamine).

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Monday, May 7 a deputy was dispatched to Neil Drive due to a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival the officer found both Gunter and Newby inside the residence. The owner of the home told the deputy that no one was supposed to be there. Gunter and Newby were placed under arrest for aggravated criminal trespassing.

During the investigation, Gunter and Newby were found with 0.06 grams of methamphetamine along with approximately 20 hypodermic needles, five glass pipes, digital scales, and a grinder.

Gunter’s bond is $2,000 and she will make a court appearance on June 28. Newby’s bond is $5,000.

48 year old Randall Eugene Tittle of Tubb Street, Liberty is charged with theft of property over $1,000. His bond is $10,000.

Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, May 6 Tittle stole a Champion Model 8500 generator from a construction site on Nashville Highway in Liberty. The generator is valued at $1,800. The case was investigated by a sheriff’s department detective.

49 year old John Michael Turner of A.B. Frazier Road, Smithville is charged with public intoxication. His bond is $2,000 and his court date is June 14.

According to Sheriff Ray, on Wednesday, May 9 law enforcement officers were requested by EMS to provide immediate assistance. Upon arrival, the officer met with EMS and Turner, outside Turner’s home. Turner was aggressive and combative and he had a very strong odor of alcohol on him. He was also unsteady on his feet. Sheriff Ray said Turner cursed and yelled at both the officer and EMS personnel and he refused commands to calm down and get back inside the residence. Turner was then placed into custody.

33 year old Robin Lynn Woodard of Hogan Drive, Gordonsville is charged with criminal impersonation and evading arrest. She is under a $7,000 bond and her court date is June 14.

Sheriff Ray said that on April 27 a deputy stopped a gray Ford truck for failure to yield at a stop sign and spoke with the driver and passenger. He asked the passenger, Woodard for her identification. She handed him an ID which belonged to another woman. A computer check revealed the woman identified had an active warrant against her in Coffee County. During the investigation (Woodard) escaped on foot as the officer was unable to catch up to her. After a further investigation, the deputy learned that Woodard was the passenger of the truck who had fled the scene. Woodard was arrested later and admitted to having handed the deputy another person’s ID before escaping on foot.

32 year old Tabitha Danielle Martin of Chapman Hollow Road, Dowelltown is charged with violation of an order of protection. Her bond is $3,500 and her court date is June 14.

Sheriff Ray said that on Friday, May 11 a deputy was called to do a welfare check at a residence on East Main Street in Dowelltown concerning Martin. Upon arrival the officer spoke with the homeowner but was told Martin was not believed to be there. The deputy searched the residence and found Martin hiding in a bedroom closet. A computer check revealed that Martin has an order of protection against her to stay away from the woman at this home. The homeowner surmised that Martin had entered the residence while she was sleeping. Martin was placed under arrest.

24 year old Garrett Michael Johnson of Green Brook Drive, Lebanon is charged with public intoxication and aggravated criminal trespassing. He was also cited for possession of a schedule IV drug (Diazapam) and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is $5,000 and his court date is June 14.

Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, May 13 a deputy was dispatched to check out a suspicious vehicle at a vacant home on Wenger Lane. Upon arrival the officer noticed that the garage door was open. Johnson came out of the house. According to the officer, Johnson was shaking and his speech was slurred. He admitted to having taken drugs.The deputy found on Johnson needles and two and a half pills of Diazapam but not in the proper prescription bottle. Johnson could not produce a valid prescription for the drugs. According to Sheriff Ray, the officer discovered that the garage door to the home would not stay shut because it was warped and the door inside the garage leading to the basement had been pried open. Johnson told the deputy that he knew the mortgage company now owned the home because of papers posted on the door. Johnson was placed under arrest.
