Carson-Newman Coach to Speak at DCHS Baseball Chili Supper

Tom Griffin, the head baseball coach at Carson-Newman College, will be the guest speaker at the annual DCHS baseball chili supper, LIVE auction, and silent auction on Monday, March 5.

The fundraising chili supper will be held at the DeKalb County Complex starting at 6 p.m.

Griffin is entering his 13th season this year as head baseball coach at Carson-Newman.

He has compiled an overall record of 347-250 and a conference record of 154-139 at Carson Newman. He is 531-449-2 in 20 seasons as a college baseball coach.

Griffin has also authored an instructional catching baseball video, “Catch It, Block It, Throw It.” A regular instructional speaker at various coaching clinics and camps, he has been the featured speaker at the American Baseball Coaches Association convention in Orlando, Florida in 2007, Anaheim, California in 2012, and Nashville, TN in 2015.

To get tickets find a DCHS baseball player or purchase tickets at the door. The cost is $8.00 for one person or $25 for a family.

DeKalb Prevention Coalition Earns Recognition

The DeKalb Prevention Coalition earned a diploma last week after successfully completing the requirements for graduation from the National Coalition Institute.

The ceremony was held during the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America’s (CADCA) 28th Annual National Leadership Forum on February 5-8 in Washington, D.C.

DPC Treasurer, Kristi Paling & DPC Coordinator, Lisa Cripps accepted the CADCA diploma from the National Coalition Institute.

The mission of CADCA is to strengthen the capacity of community coalitions to create and maintain safe, healthy and drug-free communities globally. This is accomplished by providing technical assistance and training, public policy advocacy, media strategies and marketing programs, training and special events. #CADCA #Community #Graduates

The DeKalb County coalition’s goal is to unite community leaders and citizens of DeKalb County forming strong partnerships across major community sectors with the goal of reducing substance abuse.

The vision of the coalition is to see DeKalb County citizens live in a safe, healthy, and drug free community.

This project is funded by The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.




DeKalb West Names Students of the Month

DeKalb West School announces its Students of the Month for February. Selected were Grady Thomason, Kindergarten, Javan Hefflin, 1st grade, Timothy Goss, 2nd grade, Izzy Prichard, 3rd grade, Ethan Hight, 4th grade, Grant Buterbaugh, 5th grade, Melanie Ortiz, 6th grade, Matt Nokes, 7th grade, and Cameron Kempton, 8th grade. Students are chosen for their academic skills, character, and other traits that make them one of the best at DeKalb West.
