Griffith Charged with Breaking Church Windows

A man caught on camera breaking windows out of a church building on Old Snow Hill Road has been arrested and charged in the case.

38-year-old Matthew Griffith of Snow Hill Road, Dowelltown will appear in General Sessions Court December 14 on charges of aggravated criminal trespassing, desecration of a venerated object, and vandalism. His total bond is $30,000.

According to Chief Deputy Brian Williams of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, on November 25 at 2:23 a.m. Griffith went onto the property of 1563 Old Snow Hill Road and was observed on camera breaking three windows out of a church resulting in approximately $3,000 in damage.

38-year-old Melinda Beth Murphy of Page Drive Smithville is charged with aggravated burglary and vandalism. Her bond is $25,000 and she will make a court appearance on December 14.

Chief Deputy Williams said that on November 23 Murphy allegedly threw a cinder block through a window in order to break into a residence on Page Drive.

42-year-old Jeremie Donald Johnson of Alexandria to Dismal Road, Liberty is charged with public intoxication. His bond is $1,500 and he will be in court December 14.

Chief Deputy Williams said that on November 25 a deputy was summoned to Brush Creek Highway due to a possible motor vehicle accident and upon arrival the officer spotted Johnson walking across the road from New Hope Road. The deputy stopped and spoke to Johnson and observed that Johnson’s eyes were red and glassy and that his speech was slow. Johnson also had an odor of alcohol on him. For his safety and that of the public, Johnson was placed under arrest for public intoxication.




DeKalb EMS Gets $500 Donation from Mountain Harbour Property Owner’s Association

The DeKalb County Ambulance Service was presented a $500 donation Wednesday from the Mountain Harbour Property Owners Association (POA).

The Mountain Harbour POA residential golf and lakefront community is located on the eastern end of Center Hill Lake adjacent to the former Riverwatch Golf Course.

DeKalb EMS Director Hoyte Hale accepted the donation and expressed his sincere appreciation to Mountain Harbour POA for their continued support of the DeKalb County Ambulance Service. “This donation was specifically earmarked for DeKalb EMS and will be used to improve services in this community,” said Hale.

Tigers Get Road Win at Smith County, Lady Tigers Lose to Owlettes

The DCHS Tigers earned a 59 to 49 road win at Smith County Tuesday night while the Lady Tigers lost to the Owlettes 67 to 44.

The Tigers (3-4) and the Lady Tigers (3-4) will host Warren County Friday, December 8 in Smithville. The girls game will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

In the game Tuesday night with the Owls, the Tigers led 12 to 9 after the 1st period, 24 to 21 at halftime, and 41 to 35 after the 3rd period before notching a 59 to 49 victory.

Conner Close led the Tigers in scoring with 23 points followed by Dallas Kirby with 14, Jordan Parker and Jon Hendrix each with 7, Seth Fuson 5, and Alex Antoniak 3.

The Lady Tigers trailed Smith County 16 to 11 after the 1st period, 41 to 25 at halftime, and 55 to 35 after the 3rd period before losing to the Owlettes 67 to 44.

Ella VanVranken led the team in scoring with 16 followed by Tess Barton with 10, Allie Melton 5, Cam Branin and Chloe VanVranken each with 4, Avery Agee and Brooklyn Fuson each with 2 and Lillie Young with 1.
