Fiddlers’ Jamboree Gets Donation from MTNG Project Hometown Help

The Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree is pleased to announce that it has received $1,000 from Middle Tennessee Natural Gas’s Project Hometown Help program. The Jamboree is a beloved tradition in DeKalb County that brings together musicians and music lovers from across the region. The funds will be used to improve the infrastructure of the event, including sound systems and lighting.
“We are thrilled to receive these funds from MTNG,” said Jamboree President Kim Luton. “This funding will help us continue to provide a high-quality event for our community and visitors from across the region.”

Man caught with heroin for resale enters plea

A Smithville man caught in his car sixteen months ago at the Food Lion parking lot believed to be weighing heroin for sale was sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court on Tuesday, June 20.
28-year-old Tyler Blake Hollingsworth entered a plea to possession of a schedule I drug for sale and delivery and received an eight-year sentence all suspended to supervised probation. He was fined $2,000. The sentence is to run concurrently with a DeKalb County General Sessions Violation of Probation against him.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on February 20, 2022 Hollingsworth was found to have on him about 3.34 grams of a white powdery substance believe to be heroin. A deputy received a call from an off-duty officer stating that a man was spotted sitting in a newer model white Chevy Impala at the Food Lion parking lot. The man, Hollingsworth appeared to be weighing out drugs. The officer pulled up behind the vehicle and found Hollingsworth putting what appeared to be digital scales and baggies on the floorboard between his legs. White powder was on his shirt. Hollingsworth admitted that the substance was heroin.
Five Fireworks Shows Upcoming On Center Hill Lake

Five Fireworks Shows are scheduled to celebrate the Independence Day holiday on Center Hill Lake.
TWRA Officer Tony Cross said fireworks shows will be held starting as darkness sets in on the following dates and locations:
Saturday, July 1: Pates Ford Marina and Hidden Harbor Marina
Sunday, July 2: Sligo Marina and Hurricane Marina
Tuesday, July 4: Cookeville Boat Dock
“There will be a lot of folks wanting to come out and watch some of the fireworks shows. If you go in a boat make sure before you get out there that your navigation lights are working. You have to display those lights while you are on the water,” said Officer Cross.
