DeKalb Fishing Team places 3rd in weekend tournament

Four DeKalb County High School fishing teams kicked off the Central Trail opener last weekend at Old Hickory Lake.

Rowan Miller & Tyler Dunn, Bradedn Mangin & Bill Stanton, Jacob Johnson & Slade Bennett and Mason Taylor & Wesley Kent all competed with 119 other High School boats from all over Tennessee.

Jacob and Slade had 1 fish for 2.17pounds. Braeden and Bill had 3 fish for 6 pounds while Taylor and Kent came to the scales with 11.54 pounds.

The boys came in Third place and walked away with plaques and a scholarship check. “We are extremely proud of all of our anglers and are looking forward to this season. We also would like to say thank you to our sponsors and community for their support,” said Kim Taylor




Smithville Boo Bash October 31

Get ready for a frightfully fun time at this year’s Smithville Downtown Boo Bash!

For participating businesses and offices, the Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber is excited to sponsor the Best Costume Contest and Best Decorations Contest.

To enter, it’s as easy as snapping a photo! Take a picture of your costume or your spooky business decorations with your phone and send it to 615-464-7760 by 1 PM on Thursday, October 31st. The winners will receive well-deserved local and social media recognition, be announced on the November Chamber Chat WJLE Radio Show and the DTC TV program, and, of course, earn the most coveted prize of all – bragging rights!

Get creative, have fun, and show Smithville your Halloween flair!

The 13th annual Smithville Boo Bash will be Thursday, October 31 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. at participating businesses in town and at the courthouse and county complex. Look for the orange pumpkin in the window.

Tennessee Freedom Bus Tour coming to DeKalb County

The Tennessee Freedom Bus Tour will be coming to DeKalb County this Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6PM. This will be in conjunction with State Rep. Michael Hale’s Chili Supper at the Harvester Event Center at 206 W. Main St., just off the square in Smithville. These events are FREE, but your RSVP is requested.

The Tennessee Freedom Bus Tour 2024 is led by TN Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton, and he’ll be joined by local, state, and federal officials as they visit communities across Tennessee. For more information about the Bus Tour and other stops along the way, go to www.tngop.org/bus-tour.

Sexton has been a Tennessee State Representative since 2010 and has been the Speaker of the State House since 2019.
