Why don’t you go jump in the lake?
Don’t be offended if you’re asked to do that on Saturday, February 5 because it’s all for a good cause thanks to the first ever “Plunge for Paws” sponsored by the Friends of the DeKalb Animal Shelter.
Participants will gather at the Holmes Creek Road Lake Access, better known as Redneck Beach that morning at 9:45 a.m. to take a plunge in the frigid winter waters of Center Hill Lake. The public is invited to attend even if you don’t participate. On-site registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. on February 5.
For a $25 donation you can register and the first 50 will get a thermal tumbler to commemorate the event or you can donate to help reach the fundraising goals of individual sponsored jumpers.
Applications are available at the DeKalb Animal Shelter on Transfer Station Road in Smithville. Donations must be cash or check only. All proceeds will go to the “friends of group” to help support the DeKalb Animal Shelter.
The current sponsored jumpers and their fundraising goals are: Dwayne Cornelius $1,000, Riley Young $1,000, Smithville Mayor Josh Miller $750, Tyler & Caroline Cantrell $500, Maggie Turner $500, Terry Phillips $500, and Courtney Odom $300.
