Man Uses Propane Tank and Hammer in Assault on Two Women

A Dowelltown man is facing aggravated assault charges after attacking two women over some stolen property.

50 year old Christopher Dale Cantrell of King Ridge Road is under a $20,000 bond and he will make a court appearance on October 28.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Saturday, October 2 a deputy responded to a residence on Frosty Point Road due to a 911 hang-up call from there. Upon arrival he spoke with two women who said that Cantrell came to the residence and confronted them about some stolen property. Witnesses at the scene said that Cantrell had a propane tank and starter fluid and used it to inflict burns on one of the victims and that in self defense she stabbed him. Cantrell then struck the other victim with a hammer. Both women suffered significant injuries in the attack. Cantrell was taken into custody.

41 year old Terry Brandon Maynard of Ferrell Road, Smithville is charged under a sealed indictment returned by the Grand Jury in June for possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver and possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver in a drug free zone. Bond for Maynard is $7,500 and his arraignment date is October 26.

22 year old Christopher Brent Parker of McMinnville is charged with theft of property. His bond is $5,500 and he will make a court appearance October 21.

Sheriff Ray said that on September 30 a deputy received a dispatch call about a reckless driver on McMinnville Highway operating a gold or silver SUV. In the meantime another officer advised the deputy that he was in the process of filing a report of a stolen vehicle matching that description. The deputy answering the reckless driver call spotted the vehicle on McMinnville Highway and Webb Lane and checked the registration through dispatch. After he learned that the SUV was being reported stolen, he pulled it over at Shiney Rock Market and took the driver, Parker into custody.

26 year old Mickael Flyn Mosley of Old Snow Hill Road, Dowelltown was charged on September 28 with violation of the sex offender registry. His bond is $5,000 and he will be in court October 28.

Sheriff Ray said that Mosley moved from his previous home on Old Snow Hill Road and failed to report his new address to the sheriff’s office within the state required allotted time . Mosley is currently on the sex offender registry for a 2015 offense of exploitation of a minor by electronic means.

31 year old David Micah Williams of Auburntown is charged with violation of bond conditions. His bond is $2,500 and he will make a court appearance October 28.

Sheriff Ray said that on October 2 a deputy pulled over a silver Kia for no tail light and spoke with the driver, Williams and a female passenger. After checking with central dispatch, the officer learned that Williams has been under bond conditions in Wilson County since July 29 to keep away from this woman.

18 year old William Cody Colwell of Greenwood Drive, Smithville is charged with underage driving while impaired. He was also cited for violation of the implied consent law, failure to maintain roadways laned for travel, and violation of the open container law (open alcoholic beverage in cup holder). His bond is $1,500 and he will make a court appearance October 28.

Sheriff Ray said that on October 3 while on patrol a deputy spotted a blue Hyundai driving in the middle of the roadway. He conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Colwell who said that he had consumed 5-6 beers earlier in the night. Colwell performed poorly on field sobriety tasks but he refused to submit to a blood test.

42 year old Jeremy Ray Likens of Tullahoma, believed to have been trafficking narcotics, is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. He is under a $50,000 bond and his court date is October 28.

Sheriff Ray said that on July 19 a detective executed a search warrant on a 2007 Lincoln Town car belonging to Likens. The search yielded an estimated 13 ounces of methamphetamine and in excess of $10,000 in cash. Additional baggies were also found in the vehicle.

50 year old Bryan Keith Waits is charged with public intoxication. His bond is $1,500 and he will make a court appearance October 28.

Sheriff Ray said that on October 4 a deputy was dispatched to DeKalb Market due to an intoxicated person. Upon arrival the officer spoke with the suspect, Waits who had a strong odor of alcohol on him. He admitted to having consumed a couple of alcoholic beverages prior to the deputy’s arrival. He was placed under arrest.




Caney Fork Electric Cooperative Membership Meeting Set for October 16

Caney Fork Electric Cooperative will have its annual membership meeting Saturday, October 16 at Warren County High School.

Registration and voting for directors will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. via drive thru voting in the student parking lot. The business meeting will not be conducted this year due to safeguards against COVID-19. Instead, a typewritten report will be distributed to all voting members. Please be prepared to show your photo ID driver’s license for member registration. Only one vote will be accepted per membership. The election results will be posted on the Caney Fork Electric Cooperative website at a later date.

The following members have been nominated for director positions by the committee on nominations pursuant to the bylaws: Mack Harney of Area IV- DeKalb County, Bobby Love of Area V-Warren County, and William R. Floyd of Area VI-White and Putnam Counties. No members were nominated for director positions by a petition of members.




Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Wins Church Softball League Championship

Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church took 1st place in the DeKalb County Church Softball League this season.

Awards were presented Saturday.

Buckner’s Chapel Methodist Church finished in 2nd place followed by the Refuge Church in 3rd place, and the New Life Pentecostal Church in 4th place.

Other churches that participated listed here in no particular order are the Smithville First Baptist Church, Outreach Baptist, Calvary Baptist, Smithville Church of Christ, Sparta Nazarene, and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church
