Knife Wielding Man Poses Threat to Woman and Children

A knife wielding man was taken into custody at his home Monday after he was accused of making threats in the presence of a woman and her two children.

50 year old Michael Brooks Rollins of Sand Gate Drive, Smithville is charged with aggravated assault. His bond is $5,000 and he will be in court June 3.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 10 deputies responded to Rollins’ home where he was reported to be inside the residence waving a knife and making verbal threats. Upon arrival the officers approached the front door and saw Rollins inside. They called for him to open the door but he refused and barricaded himself in the bathroom. The officers made entry into the home and placed Rollins in custody. No one was injured.

A jail inmate who had to be tased to get him back in his cell has been charged with escape.

37 year old Ryan Lee Walden of Dale Ridge Road, Dowelltown is under a $10,000 bond and he will make a court appearance on May 20.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on May 4 Walden came out of his cell in violation of the jail policy despite repeated warnings from a correctional officer for Walden to remain there. The officer deployed his taser and Walden was returned to the cell.

25 year old Christopher Keith Lane Derrick of Floyd Drive, Smithville is charged with violation of probation and possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. He is under a $5,000 bond on the meth charge. His court date for both offenses is May 13.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 5 a deputy spotted Derrick operating a green Mazda truck. Knowing that Derrick had a violation of probation warrant against him, the officer pulled over the truck and confronted Derrick about the warrant. He was then placed in custody. During a search, the deputy found in Derrick’s hoodie a clear plastic baggie containing a white crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine which weighed about 0.5 grams.

22 year old Jesse Glenn Ferrell of Dry Creek Road, Smithville is charged with criminal impersonation and public intoxication. His bond is $3,500 and he will be in court May 27.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 6 a deputy was summoned to Hurricane Ridge Road due to an unwanted guest (Ferrell) who was a previous employee. Upon arrival the officer found Ferrell inside the building. When asked to identify himself, Ferrell said his name was Justin Yates and that Jesse Glenn Ferrell was a friend of his. Ferrell’s former employer then produced for the deputy a photo copy he had on file of Ferrell’s Tennessee Identification. Ferrell was also asked if he had consumed any alcohol or taken drugs. Ferrell replied that he had smoked marijuana and taken a few shots of alcohol and some speed earlier in the day.

29 year old Britta Morgan Rollins of Davis Hollow, Liberty is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver and failure to appear. She will make a court appearance on May 27.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 8 a deputy found Rollins, who was a backseat passenger of an automobile, and placed her under arrest for failure to appear. After being removed from the vehicle the officer asked Rollins if she had anything on her person, Rollins replied that she had methamphetamine in her bra. She then produced a clear baggie containing a crystal like substance believed to be meth which weighed 8 grams.

20 year old Cedric Anthony Cruz, Jr. of Church Street, Dowelltown is charged in a grand jury sealed indictment for possession of a schedule VI drug (marijuana) with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. His bond is $7,500 and he will be arraigned in criminal court on May 18.

28 year old Tarren Jade Kyle of Malone Hollow Road, Alexandria is charged with violation of bond conditions and domestic assault. Her bond is $5,500.

Meanwhile her boyfriend, 31 year old Eric Dean Morgan of Watertown is also charged with violation of bond conditions and failure to appear. His bond is $9,000. Both will make a court appearance on May 27.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 8 a deputy went to West Main Street Alexandria after a 911 hang up call. Upon arrival he spoke with Kyle and Morgan who both said there had been a physical domestic between them. It started after they had driven to a friend’s house and stopped in the driveway. Kyle grabbed the keys out of the ignition and when Morgan tried to get the keys away from her, she bit him on his wrist. Morgan had scratches on his neck and shoulders and marks on his wrist. Kyle was determined to have been the primary aggressor and was placed under arrest. A background check through central dispatch revealed that Kyle and Morgan were under bond conditions in Smith County to keep away from each other.

The team of Garrett Hayes and Levi Driver, DCHS top seeded boys doubles team, advanced to the semi-finals of the district 6AAA tennis tournament at Cookeville High School.

On May 5th they advanced by beating Warren County 6-1 6-2, then faced Cookeville’s #2 team and won by a score of 6-4 6-4.This was their first win over a strong Cookeville team in their 4 years of playing for DCHS.

On Thursday they returned to Cookeville to play the #1 seeded Cookeville team and lost by a score of 6-0 6-0. By finishing second in their half of the district, they advanced and were matched up against the #1 Soddy Daisy team that had won the other half of the district tournament bracket. Garrett and Levi played a very tight match with the top seeded Soddy Daisy team before losing 6-4 2-6 7-5.

DeKalb West School Monday announced the May Students of the Month.

Students selected for the honor are from PreK-Judd Sebolt; Kindergarten: Marley Pyburn, Layla Garza, and Ripley Barnes; 1st grade–Harper Hale, Jordyn Brigham, and Carson Maynard; 2nd grade: Isabella Scott, Braylyn Rice, and Lucas Yancey; 3rd grade: Rebekah Goss and Bentley Wright; 4th grade: Halia McDaniel and Ezzy Moore; 5th grade: Akacia Walker and Ava Melton; 6th grade: Kayley Sims and Landon Ford; 7th grade: Cameron Stanley and Abby Jo Crook; 8th grade: Bradley Pelham and Hailey Redmon.

Students are selected based on character, grades and other factors that make them an exemplary student.
