Chevy Blazer Plunges Off Bridge Embankment into Creek Bed

A 29 year old man was seriously injured Wednesday evening when his 1999 Chevy Blazer plunged off a bridge embankment and crashed into a creek bed on Dry Creek Road near the Highway 70 (West Broad Street intersection.
Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol told WJLE that Rickey Hall of Smithville was north on Dry Creek Road approaching the West Broad intersection when the Chevy Blazer went off the road to the right, over the embankment at the bridge, and into the creek bed before crashing into a concrete retaining wall.
Members of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department and extrication and rescue team helped Hall from the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. The Smithville Police Department was also on the crash scene to assist.
Motorcycle Operator Injured in Crash with Van

A 56 year old Huntingdon man was seriously hurt Tuesday evening when his motorcycle crashed into a van on Bright Hill Road.
Charles Corforth was riding a 1980 Harley Davidson when he crossed into the path of a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by 35 year old Ashley Williams of Smithville.
Corforth was transported to the hospital by EMS. He was charged with failure to maintain lane of travel, violation of the financial responsibility law (no insurance) and operating a motorcycle without a license. Williams was cited for driving on a suspended license.
The crash was investigated by Trooper Jonathan Burke of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
DeKalb County COVID-19 Count at 192 and 1 Death

DeKalb County’s confirmed number of COVID-19 cases now totals 192 with 116 active cases and 1 death.
As of Thursday, July 23, a total of 3,449 people had been tested with 3,257 negative results and 192 positive and 1 death. A total of 75 persons tested positive since March have recovered.
The DeKalb County Health Department’s new testing hours are Monday-Friday from 9am to 12 NOON every day.
At 192 cases, DeKalb County ranks 6th highest in the 14 county Upper Cumberland region behind Putnam with 1,313 (9 deaths), Macon 747 (10 deaths), Cumberland 287 (6 deaths), Smith 268 (2 deaths ), and Warren 262 (3 deaths). Other counties in the region with COVID-19 cases are White 145 (3 deaths), Overton 102 (1 death), Jackson 91, Cannon 87, Fentress 48, Clay 41, Van Buren 19, and Pickett 16 (1 death)
