Fall Fest Royalty Crowned in Three New Categories

Royalty in several age groups were crowned Saturday during the Annual Fall Fest Pageants hosted by the Last Minute Toy Shop.

Three new categories were added this year including Miss Fall Fest for ages 19-54 (unmarried), Mrs. Fall Fest ages 19-54, and Senior Fall Fest Queen for those ages 55 and older.

Brandi Liggett claimed the crown for the first ever Miss Fall Fest Queen for ages 19-54. She is the 39-year-old daughter of Terry and Tricia Bullard of Smithville. First runner-up was 19-year-old Chloe Faith Lawson, daughter of Victoria Poteete and Adam Denney of Smithville. She was also judged to have the prettiest hair, eyes, attire, smile, and was most photogenic.

Meanwhile 27-year-old Mariah Kilgore of Smithville is the first ever Mrs. Fall Fest among the 19-54 age group while 72-year-old Betty Davis of Smithville was crowned the first Senior Fall Fest Queen from ages 55 and older. Davis also won for prettiest eyes and people’s choice.

First runner-up in the Senior Fall Fest Pageant was 59-year-old Tammy West of Smithville. She was also judged to have the prettiest attire. Second runner-up was 56-year-old Symantha Haley of Alexandria. Haley received honors for most photogenic and prettiest hair. 57-year-old Teresa Winchester Stanley of Smithville was recognized for prettiest smile.

Three days remain to vote early and already a total of 4,887 people has cast ballots in DeKalb County for the November 5th elections.

Sample Ballot

Election day voting at all 12 precincts in the county will be from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

During the 11th day of early voting on Monday, October 28 a total of 317 people voted in DeKalb County including 301 in person and 16 by absentee.

The turnout each day is as follows:

Wednesday, October 16: A total of 643 including 492 in person, 100 by absentee, and 51 at the nursing home/Webb House.

Thursday, October 17: A total of 465 including 452 in person and 13 by absentee

Friday, October 18: A total of 530 including 521 in person and 9 by absentee

Saturday, October 19: A total of 323 including 314 in person and 9 by absentee

Monday, October 21: A total of 431 including 425 in person and 6 by absentee

Tuesday, October 22: A total of 776 including 551 in Smithville at the courthouse, 205 in Alexandria at the fairgrounds, and 20 by absentee.

Wednesday, October 23: A total of 362 including 359 in person and 3 by absentee

Thursday, October 24: A total of 346 including 326 in person and 20 by absentee

Friday, October 25: A total of 365 including 359 in person and 6 by absentee

Saturday, October 26: A total of 329 including 322 in person and 7 by absentee

Monday, October 28: A total of 317 including 301 in person and 16 by absentee

Early Voting continues through October 31.

On the ballot this year is the Presidential election as well as races for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives (District 6), Tennessee Senate (District 16), and Tennessee House of Representatives (District 40).

In DeKalb County, two referendums are on the ballot regarding a $50 wheel tax and the issuance of general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $65 million for a judicial center and jail.

In Smithville at the courthouse, early voting times will be as follows:

Tuesday: 12 noon until 6 p.m.
Wednesday: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Thursday: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

In Alexandria at the Sandlin Building on the Fairgrounds, early voting times will be Tuesday, October 29: 12 noon until 6 p.m.

The DeKalb County Tigers suffered their third region loss of the season to the visiting White County Warriors Friday night losing 27 to 21.

With the game tied at 21-21 in the 4th period, White County’s star quarterback Tripp Pinion, on the mend from an injury, made his first appearance in the game and threw the winning touchdown pass, a 38-yard completion to Darvon Richmond.

The Tigers (6-3) will close out the regular season next Thursday night, October 31 against the undefeated Upperman Bees (9-0) in Smithville. Kick-off will be at 7 p.m. and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

White County struck first on an 18-yard touchdown run by Demarious Dowell with 8:07 left in the 1st period completing an 80-yard drive. Kicker Noah Skeith converted the PAT and the Warriors led 7-0.

The Tigers answered with 11:57 left in the 2nd period on a 5-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jordan Parker to Wyatt Carter capping a 70-yard drive. Kicker Adrian Prater came on for the extra point and the game was tied at 7-7.

White County’s backup quarterback Isaiah Kelso gave the Warriors the lead on a 53-yard QB keeper completing a 60-yard drive with 10:12 left in the 2nd period. Skeith added the extra point and the visitors led 14-7.

DeKalb County tied the game with 7:22 left in the 2nd period on a 33-yard QB keeper by Jordan Parker, capping a 50-yard drive. Adrian Prater converted the PAT and the score was 14-14.

Antonio Purvis broke the tie on a 25-yard touchdown run completing an 80-yard drive with 5:39 left in the 2nd period. Skeith came on for the extra point and White County led 21-14.

DeKalb County again tied the game with 8:29 left in the 3rd period on a 26-yard touchdown pass from QB Jordan Parker to Ryan Lyons. Adrian Prater added the extra point and the Tigers had pulled even with the Warriors at 21-21.

White County took the lead for good with 4:41 left in the game when QB Tripp Pinion was inserted in the game and threw his only pass, a 38-yard touchdown throw to Darvon Richmond. The PAT attempt was no good but the Warriors went on to claim a 27-21 victory.
