Dowelltown Man Involved in Rollover Crash at Liberty

A Dowelltown man escaped serious injury in a rollover crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 70 at Liberty.
According to Trooper Richard Teachout of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 27 year old Michael Highers was traveling west on Highway 70 in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer when his vehicle hydroplaned during the rain, went out of control, and overturned coming to rest on its side.
Highers, who suffered cuts and bruises, was treated at the scene by DeKalb EMS but he refused transport to the hospital.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and County Volunteer Fire Department were also on the scene.
Waterfall Tour by Friends of Edgar Evins State Park Coming March 23

Reservations are now open for the March 23rd Annual Waterfall Tour by Friends of Edgar Evins State Park. The fee is $15 per person, Visa or Mastercard accepted. Reservations may be made though the website at www.foeesp.com/waterfall-tour This is a fundraiser by the all-volunteer Friends group and the proceeds will benefit the park. Meet at Edgar Evins State Park’s office by 8 A.M. Ride a school bus from Edgar Evins State Park to Rock Island State Park to visit Great Falls and Twin Falls, then on to Cumberland Mountain State Park for lunch before going on to Ozone Falls State Natural Area. Walks will be short and will not be strenuous but will be on rocky and uneven ground. You may wish to take a cane or hiking stick as well as a camera. The total distance traveled will be about 200 miles with an expected return to Edgar Evins State Park by 4:00 P.M. In addition to the $15 tour fee, attendees will pay for their own lunch from the buffet in the restaurant at Cumberland Mountain State Park (approximately $10.) There will be an opportunity to shop in the park’s gift store as well as touring the small new museum. DCHS Unable to Derail Macon County

The DCHS Lady Tigers have been unable to derail two teams in the district this season, league leading Upperman and Macon County, the second place team.
Macon County came calling Tuesday night and knocked off the homestanding Lady Tigers 63 to 32. In the earlier meeting on January 11 at Lafayette, DC lost 61 to 36. In the boys game Tuesday night the visiting Tigers from Lafayette got even with the black and gold cagers winning 54 to 45. DeKalb County had beaten Macon County on January 11 at Lafayette 61 to 49.
In the girls game, Macon County led 15 to 9 after the 1st period, 24 to 11 at halftime, and 42 to 18 after the 3rd period before winning 63 to 32.
Kadee Ferrell scored 15, Mya Ruch 9, Mallori Hart 4, and Lydia Brown and Joni Robinson each with 2.
For the boys, DeKalb County led 20 to 11 after the 1st period, 32 to 22 at halftime, and 40 to 38 after the 3rd period but were outscored in the 4th period and lost 54 to 45
Nathan Atkins scored 22, Dallas Cook 8, Tanner Poss 7, and Colter Norris, Evan Jones, and Lucas Hale each with 2 points.
The Lady Tigers slip to 17-8 overall and 9-4 in the district while the Tigers fall to 4-21 and 3-10 in the district.
