WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters Return Thursday, September 2 at 4:30 p.m. to Talk College Football

WJLE’s “Fearless Forecasters” are returning for another season of college pigskin prognosticating Thursday, September 2 at 4:30 p.m.
This season’s regulars are Scott Brown, Jared Davis, Chad Kirby, Jeff and Grant James, Ricky Atnip, John Pryor, Darrell Gill, and Scott Goodwin.
The “Fearless Forecasters” pick who they believe will win in fourteen of the biggest or most interesting college football games of the week along with the Tennessee Titans games.
They also make an underdog selection each week.
The Fearless Forecaster with the best record and most underdog points is awarded at the end of the season.
The program is sponsored by First Bank, Davis Auto Body, Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, DeKalb County Insurance, Gill Automotive, the Charles D. Atnip Realty & Auction Company, and Domino’s Pizza.

DEKALB LIBRARIES TO BE CLOSED LABOR DAY
The DeKalb County Libraries will be closed on Monday, September 6th for Labor Day.
DEKALB TRANSFER STATION AND CONVENIENCE SITES TO BE CLOSED LABOR DAY
The DeKalb County transfer station and all trash collection sites will be closed Monday, September 6, 2021 in observance of Labor Day.
OPEN HOUSE AT SMITHVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL POSTPONED
The Open House and Title I/PTO Meeting that were scheduled at Smithville Elementary for Tuesday, September 7 have been postponed until a date that will be announced later.
DEKALB PURCHASING COMMITTEE BID OPENING
The DeKalb County Purchasing Committee will meet for a bid opening on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the lower courtroom of the DeKalb County Courthouse. Bids properly submitted will be opened for blasting for the DeKalb County Highway Department.
SMITHVILLE MAYOR AND ALDERMEN TO CONDUCT WORKSHOP
The Smithville Mayor and Aldermen will have a workshop Thursday night, September 2 at 6 p.m. at city hall to discuss adopting 2018 building codes and to discuss the splash pad project.
COURTHOUSE AND COUNTY OFFICES TO BE CLOSED LABOR DAY
The DeKalb County Courthouse, County Complex County Offices, and Senior Center will be closed Monday, September 6, 2021 in observance of Labor Day. The County Clerk’s office will be closed Saturday, September 4, 2021.
DEKALB COUNTY REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE MEETING
The DeKalb County Redistricting Committee will meet Tuesday, September 7 at 6 p.m. on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse.
THP SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint on Sept. 3rd, 2021 on State Route 56 in Dekalb County.Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists. The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610.

TWRA DEKALB YOUTH DOVE HUNT
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency DeKalb County Youth Dove Hunt will be September 4 at Gene Young’s Farm at 2354 W.L. Davis Road, Smithville. Registration from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. followed by the hunt from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m..
All hunters must have:
Hunter Safety Card
Under 13 years old do not need a license
13-15 years old need a Jr. License (Type 002- $11)
16 and older need an adult/fish combo license (Type 001- $35)
16 and older need migratory bird permit (Type 006-$2.00)
Bring ammo, plugged shotgun, glasses, ear protection & stool/bucket
A supervising adult must be at each stake. Two youths may share a stake but only one gun per stake.

ALEXANDRIA FIRE DEPARTMENT’S 3RD ANNUAL COOKOUT AND MOTORCYCLE RIDE
The Alexandria Fire Department’s 3rd Annual Cookout on the Square and Motorcycle Ride will be Saturday, September 4 at 105 North Public Square, Alexandria sponsored by the Bikers for Christ.
All Bikes Welcome: Registration from 9-10 a.m. Kickstands up at 10 a.m. $20 per driver. Passenger free. Food not included. Approximately 2 hour scenic ride. Fee includes a meal at the end of the ride. (hamburger or hotdog, chips & drink)

SECOND ANNUAL PUMPKIN FESTIVAL COMING TO SMITHVILLE
The second annual Pumpkin Festival will be coming to downtown Smithville on the public square October 23 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. featuring over 100 arts and crafts vendors along with food vendors, a fun zone for kids, helicopter rides, and a pumpkin patch. There will be something for everyone. Come on out and join in for a start to the fall season. Admission is free! STAY STRONG, STAY HEALTHY EXERCISE PROGRAM STARTS SEPTEMBER 9
Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide older adults (age 40 and over) with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. This 8 week exercise program will meet twice a week for one-hour classes. Classes will include warm up exercises, easy strengthening exercises and cool down stretches. The program is free. Equipment will be provided. UT Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent April Martin will be the instructor for this 8 week course scheduled for Monday and Thursdays from 9 – 10:00 a.m. from September 9 to November 4 at the UT Room in the County Complex.
