“Bailey” Still Homeless (View video here)
August 1, 2021
By: Dwayne Page
“Bailey” is getting a lot of care and attention at the DeKalb Animal Shelter but what she really needs is a forever home!
This loveable Healer mix is the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured “Pet of the Week”.
Bailey was featured on WJLE as a “Pet of the Week” in June. She is still at the shelter and doesn’t have a forever home. If you can please make room for Bailey in your home.
“Bailey is our longest shelter resident right now. She is a one year and eight months old Healer/Hound mix. Bailey has been spayed and is up to date on her vaccinations. She has been micro-chipped and heartworm screened and is in great health. Bailey is wonderful but she needs to be the only dog in the household because she is very dominant and likes to have all the attention but she is super fun, playful and loves kids. She just wants to have all your love and attention,” said Shelter employee Emmaly Bennett.
“If you are interested go to our website at https://www.dekalbanimalshelter.com/ and look for Bailey under the adoptable pet tab. Fill out that application and we will call you for an appointment to come in and meet her,” said Bennett.

DeKalb Saints Open Football Season Thursday, August 5

The DeKalb Saints will open the 2021 football season at home Thursday, August 5 hosting Overton County. Kick-off is at 6:30 p.m.
Coach Justin Poteete sizes up this year’s Saints. “I look for our team to look pretty good. Our numbers definitely have been up for the past couple of years but that does not necessarily translate into success because effort has to be there. We have a lot of new faces this year so we will have to teach a lot but I expect for the most part the athletes in the county are out here. The numbers are good and the physicality has been okay. They have been working hard each and every day. Size wise we look to be pretty good but we have to be physical. We have played a lot of big teams that were pretty soft and a lot of small teams that were physical so that will be the determining factor for this team. We will have a little bit of speed, not very much but if we pop people in the mouth we will be alright and if we don’t then we won’t. We will have a new player at quarterback this year. John Hendrix hasn’t played in a few years. He is a decent sized kid with a very good arm. He is still learning the offense and the ends and outs of what we expect in football but he is out here busting his tail everyday with a very good attitude so look for some big things from him carrying and throwing the ball but we will need guys to step up and catch the ball,” said Coach Poteete.
