Grand Opening for Central Bark Dog Park Friday, November 6

A grand opening celebration and dedication of Smithville’s new Central Bark Dog Park will be Friday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The park is located at 186 Transfer Station Road behind the DeKalb Animal Shelter off Highway 70 east to the rear of Tenneco Automotive.

Randy Boyd of the Boyd Foundation Dog Park Dash Grant Program and President of the University of Tennessee will be the guest speaker. The Boyd Foundation last year awarded a $25,000 grant to the City of Smithville for the development of the park.

The program will begin with welcome remarks by Mayor Josh Miller and Gayla Hendrix, grant writer and former Smithville Alderman who came up with the idea and secured the grant for the dog park.

Reverend Mark Pafford of Authentic Being Counseling Services, PLLC will offer the invocation and Dr. Scott Little of the DeKalb Animal Clinic will lead the blessing and dedication followed by the ribbon cutting.

The Dog Park is enclosed with a chain link fence where dog owners can bring their pets for a stroll. The park, which can accommodate both smaller and larger dogs, will have water stations, agility equipment, and park benches.

Republicans up and down the ballot carried  DeKalb County in the Tennessee General Election Tuesday.

A record number of voters turned out for this election locally totaling 8,542 including 4,606 early voters , 511 absentees and 3,425 on election day. DeKalb County has 12,509 registered voters.

In the Presidential race, Donald Trump won all 15 precincts and had a majority of the early votes and absentees to defeat Joe Biden in DeKalb County 6,663 (78.32%) to 1,747 (20.54%).

For the United States Senate, Bill Haggerty also carried all 15 precincts and had a majority of the early votes and absentees enroute to a 6,153 (77.93%)  to 1,522 (19.28%) win over Marquita Bradshaw

6^th District Congressman John Rose carried all 15 precincts and had a majority of the early votes and absentees to defeat Christopher Martin Finley 5,800 (76.84%) to 1,584 (20.99%). A third candidate, Christopher B. Monday had 160 votes (2.12%).

District-wide, Rose won with 257,219 votes (73.69%) to 83,694 (23.98%) for Finley and 8,139 (2.33%) for Monday

40^th District State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver won her race in DeKalb County defeating Paddy Sizemore 4,276 (81.15%) to 989 (18.77%). Weaver carried all precincts she represents and had a majority of the early votes and absentees in her race.

District-wide, Weaver won with 25,951 votes (78.80%) to 6,980 (21.20%) for Sizemore.

46^th District State Representative Clark Boyd, who was unopposed, received 1,449 complimentary votes in DeKalb County.

“ This cute little guy is about 10 to 12 weeks old. He has already been neutered and is super affectionate. Meatball is purring constantly. He loves to play with other cats and would be a great kid kitten for someone. Come out and meet him,” said Shelter employee Emmaly Bennett.
