A truck driver was airlifted Thursday after his dump truck overturned spilling its load of gravel on Dale Ridge Road (Highway 96).

Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 81 year old Harold Shores of Silver Point was driving north when his 2007 Sterling dump truck ran off the right side of the road and then came back onto the highway. As Shores overcorrected, the truck overturned and struck a utility pole before coming to rest on its side in the roadway.

A helicopter landing zone was set up on Highway 70 where Shores was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital
