A total of 138 cast ballots Saturday during the second day of Early Voting for the August Elections including 130 in person and 8 by absentee. That brings the two-day total (Friday and Saturday) combined to 351 with 325 in person and 26 by absentee.
On Saturday, 112 voted in the Tennessee Republican Primary and 22 in the State Democratic Primary. Four voted only in the DeKalb County General Election without casting a ballot in either state primary. For the two days combined (Friday and Saturday) 278 have cast ballots in the State GOP Primary and 51 in the State Democratic Primary while 22 have voted only in the County General Election without participating in the state primaries.
Two people voted Saturday in the Alexandria Municipal Election, 3 in Dowelltown, 2 in Liberty, and 40 in the Smithville City Election. That brings the two-day total (Friday and Saturday) combined to 101 in the Smithville Municipal Election, 6 in Liberty, 5 in Alexandria, and 6 in the Dowelltown City Election.
Early voting times are as follows at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Smithville: Mondays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; Thursdays 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. until Noon. Early voting will also be held again in the western part of the county on a limited basis. The DeKalb County Fairgrounds will be the site of early voting on July 19th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on July 25 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Each early voting site is for any properly registered DeKalb County voter.

Veronica Johnson won the 2022 Lip Sync Battle at the DeKalb County Fair Friday night beating out three other contenders for the title. Audience response determined the winner.
Johnson lip synced to the country song “Til You Can’t” by Cody Johnson with some help from her grandson Elijah Underhill. Her performance earned her a first-place trophy and $250 in cash.
Coming in second place was Amanda Ford as she lip synced to Deana Carter’s “Did I Shave My Legs for This” She took home $150. She was assisted during her performance by Tyler McCloud.
Karah Jo Ford received $100 and third place for her lip sync performance of Todrick Hall’s “Attention”.
Julie Ford Vincent lip synced to a version of “Rocky Top”.
DeKalb Community Band Debuts

The DeKalb Community Band makes its debut tonight (July 16) at 7 o’clock in a performance at Green Brook Park. Under the direction of Caleb Rowland, woodwinds, brass and percussion will perform Music from the American South at the park’s amphitheater.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer the community a new musical ensemble, and hope that you join us for Music in The Park on Saturday evening, Rowland said.”
Tunes featured include the Star Spangled Banner, Kentucky 1800- Clare Grundman; Shenandoah- Frank Ticheli; At A Dixieland Jazz Funeral- Jared Spears; A Childhood Hymn- David Holsinger; Georgia on My Mind- Michael Brown ; and Tennessee Waltz- Various.
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the entertaining performance. In case of rain the concert will be held at the D.C.H.S. auditorium.
