Sheriff Patrick Ray headed for record setting fifth term

Incumbent Republican Sheriff Patrick Ray is on his way to a record setting fifth term in this office.

In the DeKalb County Republican Primary Tuesday, Sheriff Ray defeated challenger Keneth Whitehead 1,698 to 651. Ray carried all twelve precincts and had a majority of the early votes/absentees.

Sheriff Ray, as the Republican nominee, will be re-elected to a new four-year term without opposition in the August 4th General Election. He was first elected in 2006.




Brandon Cox and Tecia Puckett Pryor Claim Primary Wins for General Sessions Court Judge

Local attorneys Brandon Cox and Tecia Puckett Pryor will meet in the August 4th DeKalb County General Election to determine who succeeds retiring General Sessions Court Judge Bratten Cook, II.

Both Cox and Pryor won their respective party primaries on Tuesday. Cox captured the GOP nomination defeating Mingy Ball 1,521 to 784 while Pryor claimed the Democratic nomination with a 723 to 278 victory over Margie Rigsby Miller.

Cox carried all twelve precincts in the GOP primary and had a majority of the early votes/absentees.

In the Democratic Primary, Pryor carried every precinct except Blue Springs and Keltonburg and she had a majority of the early votes/absentees.

The winner in August will take over from Judge Cook on September 1, who will be completing 24 years on the bench as DeKalb County’s General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge.

The term of office is eight years.




Incumbent County Mayor Tim Stribling Loses to Mike Foster in Democratic Primary while Matt Adcock defeats two challengers to claim GOP Primary Win

Two term County Mayor Tim Stribling lost his bid for re-election Tuesday in the DeKalb County Democratic Primary.

Mike Foster, the former three term County Mayor, unseated Stribling 581 to 538. Eight years ago, Stribling ousted Foster in the Democratic Primary and narrowly beat him again in a 2018 rematch winning by only seven votes.

As the Democratic nominee, Foster will face Sixth district County Commissioner Matt Adcock in the August 4 County General Election. Adcock won the Republican nomination for County Mayor on Tuesday.

Adcock defeated two opponents, Fifth District County Commissioner Anita Puckett and former County Commissioner Bradley Hendrix. Adcock won with 944 votes to 735 for Puckett and 527 for Hendrix.

In the Democratic Primary, Foster had a majority of the early votes/ absentees and won six of the twelve precincts including Alexandria, Blue Springs, County Complex, Courthouse, Liberty, and Temperance Hall. Stribling carried the remaining six precincts including the Church of Christ Annex, Johnson Chapel, Keltonburg, Rock Castle, Church of God, and Snow Hill.

Adcock had a majority of the early votes/absentees in the Republican Primary and carried nine precincts including Blue Springs, Church of Christ Annex, County Complex, Johnson Chapel, Keltonburg, Liberty, Rock Castle, Smithville Church of God, and Temperance Hall. Adcock and Hendrix tied to carry the Snow Hill precinct. Puckett carried Alexandria and the Courthouse precinct.

Stribling’s term ends August 31.
