Commencement tonight (Friday, May 13) for DCHS Class of 2022

Commencement for the Class of 2022 will take place on the football field of DeKalb County High School tonight (Friday) starting at 7 p.m.

The DCHS band will perform the traditional pomp and circumstance as members of the class file onto the field to take their seats.

The program will open with an invocation by FCA member Isaiah Herrington, a performance by the DCHS Chorus and music theater classes, remarks by Class President Ian Paladino and Valedictorian Isabella France, recognition of students who have earned honors and service awards, including Distinction and Top Rank, presentation of the prestigious White Rose and Citizenship awards. Diplomas will then be presented to the graduates by Principal Bruce Curtis, Assistant Principal Jenny Norris, and Director of Schools Patrick Cripps followed by the benediction by FCA member Haidyn Hale to close out the commencement.

Beneke and VanVranken Punch Tickets to State Championship Meet

Junior Ally Beneke and Sophomore Ella VanVranken will be heading to MTSU on May 26th to compete in the TSSAA DI- (AAA) State Track and Field Championship meet.

Beneke cleared 5 feet 6 inches in the high jump, placing 2nd in the Section 2 Championship meet on May 10th. VanVranken competed in the 1600m run and finished 3rd over all with a time of 5 minutes 11 seconds. The top 4 athletes in each event at Sectionals advance to the State Championship Meet.

There are 4 Sectional meets across the State. Each section will send 4 athletes out of every event to State for a total of 16 competitors in each field to compete for the podium.




Eight DCHS Tigerettes Earn All-District Honors

Eight DCHS Tigerettes have earned All-District Softball honors for the 2022 season.

Named to the All-District team from DeKalb County were Morgan Walker, Bryna Pelham, Emma Martin, Jacey Hatfield, and Aniston Farler.

Hatfield was named Defensive Player of the Year

Kora Kilgore and Raylie Cowan made the All-Freshman Team

Bri Murphy was selected to the All-District Tournament Team.

The Tigerettes wrapped up their season Wednesday with a 2-1 loss to Upperman in the District Softball Tournament at Sparta. They finished the year at 19-12 overall and 8-4 in district play.
