Help the Angel Tree Project Provide Christmas Gifts for 334 Children

The 26th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project is underway and your support is needed to help make this holiday season merrier for 334 children.

Laura Stone said Angel Trees are located at bank locations in Smithville and Alexandria. Each Angel represents a child and his or her wish list for Christmas. Select an Angel from the tree, buy a gift for the child and return the gift to the bank where you picked up the Angel by December 4th.

“This is our 26th year serving children 12 and younger living in DeKalb County. Angel cards are located on Christmas trees in the local banks. People of the community can pick up an Angel and buy for a child. The wish list on each Angel is just a suggestion. It is what the child has specifically requested. Sometimes people will buy only what is listed on the card. In some cases they will buy additional things. It is not necessary that you buy everything on the list. It is your choice if you want to wrap the gifts. We need the gifts back by December 4th.”, said Stone.

“With this being our 26th year, we have seen a lot of faces grow up in the program. What warms my heart are those children who benefited from the Angel Tree when they were young. They are now adults and know the positive effect it had on their lives and will now support the Angel Tree and adopt Angels themselves. We have more than 20 new families this year so we are seeing the impact that this challenging year has had on everyone.”

Please consider adopting an Angel today or if you have no time to shop, donations can be made at Wilson Bank or any Smithville or Alexandria bank branch and the Volunteers will do the shopping for you.

A joint investigation by Special Agents with the Drug Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department has resulted in the arrest of an Algood man, in connection to the drug-related death of a Smithville woman.

In June, Agents joined deputies in investigating the death of 45 year old Jennifer Leighann Jacobs . She was found deceased on May 22nd in her Smithville home of a drug overdose, with fentanyl determined as a contributing factor. The investigation revealed that on May 18th, the victim had purchased drugs by an individual identified as Patrick Goolsby.

On Monday, the DeKalb County Grand Jury returned indictments charging 41 year old Patrick Goolsby with one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of Sale and Delivery of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. TBI Agents arrested Goolsby yesterday and he was booked into the DeKalb County Jail on a $400,000 bond.

He is scheduled for arraignment in DeKalb County Criminal Court December 8.

Count 1 of the indictment alleges that “between the dates of May 18-22, 2020 Patrick Ryan Goolsby unlawfully and recklessly killed Jennifer Leighanne Jacobs by the unlawful distribution or unlawful delivery or unlawful dispensation of fentanyl, and the said fentanyl was the proximate cause of the death of Jacobs”,

Count 2 alleges that Goolsby, on or about the 18th day of May, 2020 unlawfully and knowingly sold a controlled substance, to wit: fentanyl, a schedule II controlled substance.

Count 3 alleges that Goolsby, or or about the 18th day of May, 2020 unlawfully and knowingly delivered a controlled substance, to wit: fentanyl, a schedule II controlled substance.

Tennessee’s 2020-21 statewide gun hunting season for deer opens Saturday, Nov. 21. Deer gun season has the traditional opening date of the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. During gun season, sportsmen may also use muzzleloader or archery equipment. The season will continue through Jan. 3, 2021.

For more information about Tennessee’s 2020-21 deer hunting seasons, refer to the 2020-21 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide available online at www.tnwildlife.org, the TWRA On the Go App, or physical copies can be obtained at license agents or TWRA regional offices.

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1969 is required to carry proof of completion of a hunter education class or be in possession of the Apprentice Hunting License (along with other required licenses) while hunting any species in Tennessee.

The statewide bag limit for antlered bucks is two. No more than one antlered deer may be taken per day. Hunters are allowed the following antlerless bag limits: Unit L-3 per day, Unit A-2 per season, Unit B-1 per season, and Unit C-1 per season (Nov. 21-Dec. 6 only), and Unit D-1-per season (Nov. 21-27 only).

In Unit CWD, there is a limit of three antlerless deer per day with no season limit. The statewide bag limit of two antlered deer applies in Unit CWD. However, the statewide bag limit of two antlered deer may be exceeded within Unit CWD if taken under the Earn-A-Buck Program or taken under the Replacement Buck Program.
