The Steven Jennings “solo” baseball card is now live.

Jennings, a former DeKalb County High School standout, is card number 167 in the just released Panini product Elite Extra Edition.

The base card is numbered to only 999 copies, but there are various parallel versions with lower print runs and the same applies to the autographed versions.

Copies have already popped up on Ebay. Boxes of the product can also be found at hobby shops.

The long-established prospect brand highlights the latest batch of rising Major League Baseball (MLB) stars. Jennings is a pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and recently completed his first professional league season.

Jennings’ card is one of 200 in the set with multiple variations as well as an autographed version.

Tweaking the formula from 2017, each Hobby box of Elite Extra Edition averages eight autographs and two memorabilia cards. The set also has the company-exclusive players from the Dominican Prospect League.

Jennings first appearance on a professional card was late last year when he was on a two-player card insert set found in Bowman Draft.

The former DCHS right handed pitcher was selected by the Pirates in the Major League Baseball Draft as the 42nd overall pick and sixth into the second round in June, 2017. In June 2018 he was assigned to the Bristol Pirates.

State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver Pays Tribute to DeKalb West School

December 13, 2018
By: Bill Conger

Representative Terri Lynn Weaver paid a visit to DeKalb West School on Tuesday (Dec. 11) to commend the students and staff for earning the 2018 Reward School distinction.

“We start session next month and before we start session, I wanted to come out and congratulate you from the state for the hard work you have done,” Representative Weaver told the 5th grade classrooms.  “You are a Reward School, and that only happens when your teachers, your principals, and you kids roll up your sleeves and get in there and study and do good on your tests, and do good in your classrooms. You’ve been recognized by the state. Congratulations. Keep up the good work and keep rocking and rolling.”

Representative Weaver delivered a proclamation from the state that she and Speaker of the House Beth Harwell signed.

It reads as follows: “Whereas, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those public schools in Tennessee that, through the natural talents and unflagging commitment to academic excellence evidenced by their administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents, have achieved significant milestones; and

Whereas, DeKalb West Elementary School is one such school that was recently honored as a 2018 Reward School by the Tennessee Department of Education, the top distinction a school can earn in Tennessee; and

Whereas, awarded to only twenty percent of schools in Tennessee in 2018, reward school status designates those schools that are improving overall student academic achievement and student growth for all students and student groups; and

Whereas, the principal, faculty, and staff of DeKalb West Elementary School have built an environment that ensures students have the very best atmosphere for learning; and

Whereas, DeKalb West Elementary School’s selection as a 2018 Reward School is a tremendous source of pride for the school’s administration, teachers, students, and parents; and

Whereas, the dedication to academic excellence demonstrated by all the fine individuals affiliated with DeKalb West Elementary School is clearly deserving of our respect, admiration, and commendation; now, therefore,

I, Beth Harwell, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the One Hundred Tenth General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, at the request of and in conjunction with Representative Terri Lynn Weaver, do hereby proclaim that we congratulate DeKalb West Elementary School on being named a 2018 Reward School, salute the school’s administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents on this prestigious honor, and extend to them our best wishes for continued success in the future.

Proclaimed in Nashville, Tennessee, on this 19th day of November, 2018.
