Splash Pad Coming Soon to Green Brook Park (View video of meeting here)

November 2, 2021
By: Dwayne Page

Green Brook Park, already a great community place for family events, will have an even greater appeal especially for kids next summer with the addition of a 2,400 square foot splash pad. The goal is to have the splash pad installed and ready for use by May.

During Monday night’s regular monthly meeting, November 1, the Smithville Aldermen awarded a bid to Aquatix of Cookeville at $172,976. Aquatix was one of two companies that sell and install splash pads which had submitted proposals for the city to consider. The other company was Great Southern Recreation of Chattanooga. Their bid was for $172,687.

Mayor Josh Miller said both companies presented similar bids and designs for the project

To pay for it the aldermen adopted a budget amendment on second and final reading authorizing an expenditure of up to $173,000 for the splash pad and $7,000 for the separate purchase of software and related costs to offer online payment of city property taxes. The money for both projects will be taken from the city’s unreserved fund balance.

The city has applied for a T-Mobile Hometown Grant through the Upper Cumberland Development District which, if approved, would provide up to $50,000 for the splash pad project.
