DeKalb Has 11 COVID-19 Deaths

The number of DeKalb County COVID-19 related deaths keeps rising.

According to the Tennessee Department of Health as of Sunday, 11 people had died in DeKalb County since March, up from 10 on Friday while the number of active cases is now at 28.

There have been 544 confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 since March in DeKalb County and 505 are now inactive or have recovered.

The DeKalb County Health Department’s testing hours are Monday-Friday from 9am to 12 NOON every day.

Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences Set for October 27

Parent-Teacher conferences will be virtual next month.

Due to COVID-19 concerns the DeKalb County School District has announced that instead of in person parent teacher conferences at the individual schools, all five schools will conduct virtual parent teacher conferences online Tuesday, October 27 from 3-6 p.m.

Report cards will be issued on October 29 and since schools opened two weeks late this summer, the first semester will be divided into 2- eight week instead of nine week periods. Its not been determined yet if or how the lost two weeks are to be made up.

Fall break is set for October 12-16




Tigers Win 32-0 at Grundy County

After four weeks of close finishes, the DCHS Tigers enjoyed a breather Friday night winning 32 to 0 at Grundy County in Coalmont.

The Tigers improve to 2-3 on the season while Grundy County drops to 0-4.

All the scoring in the game came in the 1st half.

DeKalb County got on the board with 3:13 left in the 1st period as Quarterback Axel Aldino launched a pass to Isaac Knowles good for 36 yards and a score. Kicker Jasper Kleparek tacked on the extra point and the Tigers led 7-0.

DC got a safety with 10 minutes left in the 2nd period after Grundy County Quarterback Jacob Dixon was tackled in the endzone which put the Tigers on top 9-0.

Desmond Nokes scored on a 5 yard run with 7:06 left in the 2nd period capping a 33 yard drive. Kleparek added the extra point and DeKalb County led 16-0.

Aldino then found Nokes on an 8 yard touchdown pass with 2:45 left in the half capping a 60 yard drive. The PAT by Kleparek was good and the Tigers held a 23-0 lead.

DeKalb County got another safety with 2:20 left in the half after a high snap sailed over the Grundy County quarterback’s head while in the shotgun formation extending the Tigers lead to 25-0.

The last score of the game came on a 12 yard touchdown pass from Aldino to T.J. Alexander with 1:02 left before halftime. The extra point by Kleparek was good and the Tigers went on to win 32-0

DeKalb County will travel to Cannon County Friday night, September 25. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

The Lions are 0-5 with losses to Walker Valley 39-0, Warren County 48-0, Sequatchie County 46-0, Community 28-20, and Upperman 48-6.
