April 21, 2020
By: Dwayne Page

Justin Potter Library would like to join with others in our community in congratulating the DCHS Class of 2020 on their hard work and accomplishments over the past thirteen years.

The library will host a Facebook Live Story Time on Friday, April 24th at 10:00 am to honor these special students and let them know how much they are appreciated.

“Many of the students have visited the library since they were children to attend our programs, do school projects and check out books for their AR points. We have watched them grow into exceptional young adults so we feel like they part of our library family. The library will be purchasing a special book to be added to our collection with an “In Honor of the DCHS Class of 2020” label placed inside the book,” said Library Director Kathy Hendrixson

Please call the library at 615-597-4359 for further information on our services.

A Putnam County man escaped injury Saturday when his Jet Ski burst into flames on Center Hill Lake.

The incident occurred at the Floating Mill Recreation area as the man was trying to load the Jet Ski back on a trailer after experiencing some problems with the water craft. The man, who said the Jet Ski exploded, was forced into the lake. The burning Jet Ski drifted back out into the lake and sank.

Members of the TWRA, DeKalb EMS, DeKalb Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department, and DeKalb EMA responded.

Meanwhile, quick action by the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department saved a home Saturday evening on Lee Homer Road in the Blue Springs Community.

The residence belongs to Phillip, D.J., and Paula Stewart but a tenant had been living there. The fire was discovered shortly after the tenant moved out.

County Fire Chief Donny Green said the fire started and was contained to a bedroom but smoke spread throughout. Most of the contents in the home were also salvaged.

Members of the Blue Springs, Short Mountain Highway, Keltonburg, Belk, Cookeville Highway, and Main Stations responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

For the first time ever the DeKalb County Board of Education will meet by a video conference Thursday night, April 23 in accordance with the Governor’s order for social distancing due to COVID-19.

If the government is unable to provide live public access despite reasonable efforts, the governing body must make a clear audio or video recording available to the public as soon as practicable following the meeting and not more than two business days after the meeting.
