DeKalb County Farm Bureau Honored with Pinnacle Partnership Award

During the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation’s 98th annual convention at Franklin’s Cool Springs Marriott, DeKalb County Farm Bureau was recognized for reaching the highest standards possible in membership, programs and teamwork.

The Pinnacle Partnership Award is the highest recognition a county Farm Bureau may receive. It is evidenced by the cooperation between volunteer leaders, agents and staff. DeKalb County Farm Bureau is to be commended for their hard work and well-earned success over the past year.

DeKalb County Farm Bureau was recognized onstage with the Pinnacle Partnership Award for their exemplary records over the past year. They received a plaque with the bronze Pinnacle Partnership medallion.

Tennessee Farm Bureau is the largest Farm Bureau in the nation with a membership more than 675,000 and is a farm organization whose goal is to develop, foster, promote and protect programs for the general welfare, including economic, social, educational and political well-being of farm people of the great state of Tennessee.

An elderly man was airlifted after a two car crash Thursday at the intersection of Highways 70 and 96 in Liberty.

78 year old Edward Tarpley of Alexandria was transported from the scene by DeKalb EMS to a helicopter landing zone at DeKalb West School. He was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital.

According to Trooper Chris Meness of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tarpley was driving north on Highway 96 in a 2017 Nissan Altima when he failed to stop at the intersection and struck a 2013 Infinity, driven by 28 year old Cody Tennyson of Murfreesboro who was east on Highway 70. After impact, the Altima came to rest in the intersection while the Infinity went off the side of Highway 70 into the grass facing east.

Tennyson was not seriously injured but he was taken to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital by DeKalb EMS.

Trooper Meness said Tennyson was cited for registration violation due to expired tags. Charges are pending against Tarpley.

Three other people were involved in a separate wreck on Thursday at the intersection of Highway 146 and Tabernacle Road.

Trooper Meness said 64 year old Carl Fenton of Michigan was traveling north on Highway 146 in a 2005 Dodge pickup and was trying to turn left onto Tabernacle Road when the truck was hit by a 2012 Chevy Malibu, driven by 20 year old Maci Arnold who was south on Highway 146. According to Trooper Meness, Arnold swerved and applied her brakes trying to avoid the collision.

Fenton was not injured and neither was his wife 59 year old Patricia Fenton, who was a passenger with him. Arnold, was treated at the scene by EMS for a minor burn from her airbag deployment. She was also cited for not wearing her seatbelt.

The Lady Tigers remain perfect at 3-0 in the Daytona Beach Shootout at Florida.

After defeating LaRue County High School of Kentucky 40-28 and Jasper Place from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 38-31 on Friday, the Lady Tigers upended Dutchtown High School of Hampton, Georgia 47 to 28 in the winner’s bracket semi-finals on Saturday.

Backed by a strong defensive performance the Lady Tigers were able to take a 25-16 lead into the half and held Dutchtown to only 12 second half points.

DeKalb County was paced in scoring by Kadee Ferrell with 20 points, Megan Cantrell with 11, Emme Colwell 8, Megan Walker 5 and Mya Ruch with 3.

The Lady Tigers will have a day off Sunday before playing in the Championship Monday, December 30 versus Pulaski, Kentucky, who punched their ticket to the finals of the Shootout with a win over Cookeville High School earlier in the day Saturday.
