Couple charged with child abuse or neglect for exposing their child to methamphetamine

A Smithville couple has been charged with child abuse or neglect for exposing their child to drugs.

32 year old Dustin Matthew Brewer and 29 year old Brandi Louise Brewer are scheduled for an appearance in General Sessions Court on February 1. Dustin is also charged in a separate case for failure to appear. His bond is $11,000. Bond for Brandi is $10,000.

According to Smithville Police, officers were advised that the Department of Children Services received a referral on the Brewers for exposing their 4 year old child to drugs. DCS then got a hair follicle from the child and the drug test came back positive for methamphetamine. Warrants were then taken against the Brewers.

Dewain Hendrixson has claimed another title as the WJLE Fearless Forecaster of the year.

During the 15 week college football season including bowl games, Dewain compiled the overall best record picking winners in 212 games at 141-71. Meanwhile, Darrell Gill of the Gill Group (Darrell, Eli, and Noah) accumulated the most underdog points during the season at 69 points.

Both will be presented the “WJLE Fearless Forecasters Joe Goodwin Memorial Awards” Thursday, January 14 on the season finale of the Fearless Forecasters Show on WJLE at 4:30 p.m..

Goodwin, a long time member of the Fearless Forecasters, passed away in February, 2019 and the awards are named in tribute to him.

An inmate with a contagious disease has been charged with assault and criminal exposure after urinating and spitting in a cup of water and throwing it onto a correctional officer at the DeKalb County Jail.

40 year old Nathan Joseph Wilbert of Vandergriff Hollow Road, Dowelltown is under a $9,000 bond and he will be in court February 18.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on January 6 while being kept in a holding cell, Wilbert became aggressive and began threatening employees of the jail. Wilbert had also urinated and spit in a cup of water and threw it onto a correctional officer as he entered the cell.

47 year old Adam Charles Kress of Knoxville is charged with violation of the sex offender registry. His bond is $2,500 and he will be in court March 4.

Sheriff Ray said that on January 8 Kress informed a detective that he had moved his residence to DeKalb County and had been living here for three days but state law requires an offender to report to the sheriff’s department his new county of residence within 48 hours.

Two people found passed out in their vehicle last week will soon be in court on alcohol offenses.

23 year old Justice Namen Williams of Watertown is charged with a 2nd offense of driving under the influence and resist, stop, frisk, halt, or search while 22 year old Emilie Jo Parrott of Lebanon is accused of public intoxication. She was also cited for simple possession of a schedule IV drug (diazepam). Bond for Williams is $6,500 while Parrott is under a $1,500 bond. Both will make a court appearance on February 4.

Sheriff Ray said that on January 5 a deputy was dispatched to South Tittsworth Road where a vehicle was off the side of the road in a driveway. The two people inside were passed out.

Upon arrival the deputy found the driver, Williams passed out behind the steering wheel and the keys to the automobile were in the ignition. A strong odor of alcohol was also coming from the vehicle. An open can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade was on the driver’s side floorboard. After being awakened, Williams submitted to standardized field sobriety tasks but performed poorly. He resisted while being placed under arrest by trying to pull him arms free of the deputy. Williams has a prior DUI offense against him which was committed on August 29, 2017 in Wilson County.

While conducting an inventory of the vehicle before it was towed, the officer found 14 peach colored pill and 3 half pills believed to be diazepam which were near where Parrot, the passenger, was seated in the automobile.

21 year old Joshuah David Stulak of Jefferson Road, Smithville is charged with public intoxication and resist, stop, frisk, halt or search. His bond is $3,500 for resisting and he will make a court appearance on February 4.

Sheriff Ray said that on January 9 a deputy was dispatched to the Midnight Express on Sparta Highway due to a fight in the parking lot. Upon arrival the officer spoke with Stulak who had a strong odor of alcohol on his person. His speech was slurred and he was screaming and cussing. While being placed under arrest, Stulak resisted by placing his arms under his body. The officer had to physically pull his arms behind him to place handcuffs on him.
