Second Annual Festival of Trees Opens to a Packed House

The 2nd Annual Festival of Trees opened to a packed house Monday night at the county complex for the unveiling of an impressive collection of uniquely decorated Christmas trees.
The festival has quickly become a local holiday favorite and serves as a charity venue for a non-profit group. This year the Lighthouse Christian Camp’s Outreach Christmas Program which serves more than 500 children will benefit from the festival.
The trees will remain on display throughout the week and visitors to the complex are urged to vote for their favorites in several categories and place gifts under the tree they like the best. The one with the most gifts under it by the end of the week will be designated “Tree of the Year”.
Other categories are “Best Christmas Spirit”, “Most Unique”, “Best Overall Theme”, “Prettiest Tree”, “Most Touching Theme”, and “the tree I want in my living room”.
All gifts collected will be donated to the Lighthouse Christian Camp Outreach Christmas Program.
Monday night’s event also featured FREE pictures with Santa on the North Pole Stage, refreshments, and the Christmas Shopping Court where vendor booths displayed delightful Christmas gift ideas for sale.
Thirteen DCHS Tigers Earn All Region Football Honors

Thirteen players on the 2019 DCHS football team have earned All-Region honors.
Tiger players honored are as follows:
Offensive Most Valuable Player: Axel Aldino (QB)
Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman: Isaac Cross
Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman: Dylan Denson
Most Outstanding Returner: Desmond Nokes
Most Outstanding Defensive Back: Isaac Knowles

1st Team All Region Tyzaun Ladet (WR/LB)
1st Team All Region Antwon McCoy (LB)

The Tigers concluded the 2019 season at 8-5 overall, a 2nd place finish in the region, and a 2-1 record in the state playoffs, the first time a DCHS football team had ever advanced that far in the post-season.

Liberty Christmas Parade Kicks Off Holiday Season in DeKalb County (View video here)

The Liberty Christmas Parade Sunday afternoon became the opening act for parade lovers in DeKalb County this holiday season.
Smiling faces lined both sides of West Main Street from Salem Baptist Church to the reviewing stand near the Liberty Community Center anxious to view the sights, to catch a glimpse of Santa, and to scoop up some of the candy tossed to the crowd
This year’s Liberty parade featured a showcase of holiday themed floats, vintage automobiles, horseback riders, Mayor Dwight and wife Shirley Mathis, Mr and Ms. DeKalb County Dr. Doug Hooper and Circuit Court Clerk Susan Martin, special entries from local businesses and utility companies, ATVs and motorcycles, Smoky the Bear and the Tennessee Forestry Division, emergency vehicles including the DeKalb County EMS, DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department featuring the Liberty Station, Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad, Sheriff Patrick Ray, Constables, State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver, Assessor of Property Shannon Cantrell and more including the star of the show, Santa Claus.
Emcees for the parade were Tom Duggin of MyDTC3 and Denise Page.
After the parade, awards were presented to the best entries and drawings were held for prize giveaways.
The Dowelltown Baptist Church took 1st place for their float entry featuring a nativity and crucifixion scene with the theme “Come Let Us Adore Him”. Second place went to Wilson Bank & Trust.

In the category vintage automobiles/tractors, Jeff and Ellen Herrin won 1st place. Second place went to Mark and Melinda Miller.
In the entry for small kids, Parker Prince took 1st place and 2nd place went to Alexis Reynolds.
The Liberty Parade was sponsored by the Town of Liberty and Liberty State Bank.
