Sheriff’s Department Makes Arrests in Recent Burglaries

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department has made arrests in recent burglaries.

35 year old Michael Pierre Rose of Yulonda Drive, Smithville is charged with theft of property under $1,000, vandalism and two counts of aggravated burglary. His bond is $15,000 and he will be in court December 5

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on November 19 Rose broke into a residence on Yulonda Hills Road and stole a camera, DVR, and monitor system along with Classic Red King tobacco sleeves and a bag of tobacco with a total value of $124. He also destroyed a window to the home during the burglary causing $150 in damage. The following day, November 20 Rose broke into a camper on Yulonda Hills Road.

50 year old Jimmy Wayne Hollingsworth of Kingsport Circle, Smithville is charged with burglary and theft of property. His bond is $10,000 and he will make a court appearance on December 5.

Sheriff Ray said that on October 29 a detective received a report from the victim that her 2002 silver Dodge Dakota had been stolen. Later in the day, the truck was located in McMinnville by an off duty officer. Hollingsworth was found to be in possession of the truck and he admitted to taking it.

34 year old Lesley Lauren Dunaway is charged with public intoxication. Her bond is $1,500 and she will be in court December 19.

Sheriff Ray said that on November 25 a deputy responded to a call on Sparta Highway of a suspicious person. Upon arrival the officer spotted Dunaway walking in the middle of the highway. He stopped and spoke with Dunaway and detected that she had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person. She was very unsteady on her feet and was very argumentative. Dunaway was placed under arrest for her safety and that of the public.

43 year old William Andrew Robertson of Church Street, Alexandria is named in a grand jury sealed indictment charged with sale and delivery of under 0.5 grams of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) on April 9th . His bond is $30,000 and he will be arraigned in criminal court on December 10.

Civic, community and business leaders came together to pray and give thanks Tuesday morning during the 49^th annual Chamber Prayer Breakfast held at the County Complex Auditorium.

The guest speaker, Don Rigsby, admonished the audience to always be thankful and to seek God’s guidance through prayer in all things.

“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” said Rigsby, quoting Ephesians 5:20.

“We need to stop and give thanks for everything going on in our life today. Its easy to praise the Lord and give thanks when things are going great but we need to give thanks when things aren’t going so good. God wants us to give thanks. He has a plan for every one of us who will listen to Him and will follow that plan in their lives. His plan calls for us to be thankful with prayer. It is a special gift given to us. Its a way to communicate directly with God Almighty Himself. We need God’s leadership in all things. Prayer is important. Through prayer we can talk to God on behalf of our military, our children, and our nation. God hears when we pray individually and He hears when everybody prays. We need to turn everything over to him and allow Him to work. He wants to be part of our lives, our businesses, and in our government but today our nation doesn’t depend on the Lord like it should. Our country needs prayer,” said Rigsby.

The program began with prelude music by Susan Hinton welcoming remarks from Chamber President Beth Adcock and County Mayor Tim Stribling. Boy Scout Troop #347 presented the flags and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ryan Winfree, member of the Leadership DeKalb Class of 2020 gave the Invocation. Suzanne Robertson Slager sang the National Anthem. Bonnie Rigsby, Chris Summers and Easton Lee Davis entertained with special music. Brad Halfacre, member of the Leadership DeKalb Class of 2020 offered a prayer for military and emergency response personnel. Claire Garrett, member of the Leadership Class of 2020 read scripture. JoAnn Lagace, member of the Leadership Class of 2020 prayed for our children and families and Jen Sherwood, Chamber Board member prayed for our communities and their leaders. Lisa Cripps, Chamber Vice President introduced the guest speaker.

The meal was prepared by Jason Evans of Evins Mill.

Chamber Director Suzanne Williams, County Mayor Stribling, and Smithville Mayor Josh Miller made announcements about upcoming holidays events in December.

Rigsby, the guest speaker,  has over 31 years of active and reserve military service with the United States Air Force. He is a graduate of the USAF Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and the USAF Recruiting School. He also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Cambridge International University. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Don served as the Recruiting and Retention Superintendent for the Tennessee Air National Guard.  After retiring from the Air Force, he was hired as the first full-time director of the Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce. He later became the President of the McMinnville-Warren County Chamber until becoming the Warren Co. Industrial Development Executive Director.  In 2005, he became the TN Department of Economic and Community Development Regional Economic Jobs Development Specialist for the Upper Cumberland Area. During his time with the state he graduated from the Kentucky Institute for Economic Development with honors. Don is also a licensed and ordained Southern Baptist Minister and is currently supplying at various churches in the Middle Tennessee area. Don and his wife, Bonnie, live in Smithville. They have three children – Kevin, Kyle & Allison and five grandchildren.

“Poseidon” needs you!

The WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured “Pet of the Week” not only needs a home but a surgery and you can help!

“We think Poseidon is about eight months old. He came to us as a stray. He has an old injury to his hip and needs surgery. He is looking for a home but we would prefer him to have his surgery before he goes to his home,” said Shelter employee Emmaly Bennett.

“We are doing a fundraiser for him. Its going to cost us about $800 so look on our facebook page for ways you can donate to this little guy,” she said

“Poseidon is looking for a home. He is a lot of fun and he gets along well with other dogs. We haven’t introduced him to cats yet but he is pretty laid back so I’m sure he will do well with cats as well,” added Bennett.

Stop by the animal shelter soon and fill out an application, call 615-597-3647 (DOGS), or visit facebook. The shelter is currently open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12-4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 12 noon. Closed Wednesday.

Donations are always needed at the shelter. Items needed include puppy food, kitten food, non-clumping cat litter, bleach, Lysol/Clorox wipes, paper towels, monetary donations for medical needs, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and Milkbones. You can drop off donations during business hours or leave them at the front door.  Community support is appreciated.

Other upcoming events:

*Pet photos with Santa are Saturday, December 7th from 5pm to 8pm at the Hendrix Law office during Christmas on the Square. They ask for a $10  donation for photos.

*Volunteer Orientation is Saturday, December 14th from 12-1 pm.
