Summer Months Hot Time for Retail Sales in DeKalb County

Late Spring and early Summer continue to be the time when the most money in spent in DeKalb County.

The retail sales figures for 2018 have been released by the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration and the biggest sales month in DeKalb County was June at just over $14 million 586 thousand dollars with May not far behind at $14 million 443 thousand dollars and July at $13 million 989 thousand dollars.

For the year, retail sales in DeKalb County totaled 154 million 284 thousand dollars.

A breakdown of the data showed it was a good year for the housing market as retail sales in the “Building Materials” category totaled 15 million 71 thousand dollars. The biggest month for that category was April at almost 2 million dollars.

As somewhat expected, “General Merchandise” sales were at the highest level in December at just over 4 million 709 thousand dollars, barely topping June’s 4 million 558 thousand.

The best month for “Food Stores” was August at 3 million 534 thousand dollars. But when it came to eating out, the best month in the “Eat and Drink” category was July at over 1 million 363 thousand dollars in sales.

July again was the top month of the year in “Autos, Boats and Aircraft” at 1 million 329 thousand dollars in sales.

WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters Return Thursday, August 29

WJLE’s “Fearless Forecasters” are returning for another season of college pigskin prognosticating Thursday, August 29 at 4:30 p.m.

This season’s regulars are Dewain Hendrixson, Scott Brown, Chad Kirby, Jeff and Grant James, Ricky Atnip, John Pryor, Will Graham, and Darrell Gill along with two new Fearless Forecasters, Jacob Parsley and Jared Davis.

The “Fearless Forecasters” pick who they believe will win in fourteen of the biggest or most interesting college football games of the week along with the Tennessee Titans games
They also make an underdog selection each week.

The Fearless Forecaster with the best record and most underdog points is awarded at the end of the season.

The program is sponsored by Davis Auto Body, Liberty State Bank, DeKalb County Ace Hardware, Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, DeKalb County Insurance, Gill Automotive, the Charles D. Atnip Realty & Auction Company, and Domino’s Pizza.

Brown, Vaden welcomed as new members of WBT Community Board

Longtime DeKalb County residents Mark Brown and John Vaden recently joined Wilson Bank & Trust’s local community board, an advisory council that provides local insight and perspectives for WBT’s board of directors.

Mark Brown owns and manages Mid-State Precision, tool & die shop in Liberty. He is a graduate of DeKalb County High School and MTSU, and serves as a volunteer with The Gideons International. Brown and his wife Galen live in Liberty with their two children, Isaac and Ethan.

John Vaden retired from a career at TVA, and works part time with Manheim Nashville Auto Auction. A lifelong resident of Alexandria, he graduated from Watertown High School. He and his wife Betty have two children and three grandchildren.
