Smithville Elementary Announces Winners of School Nutrition Coloring Contest

Smithville Elementary would like to announce the winners of the National School Nutrition coloring contest. Students were asked to take a healthy snack and turn it into a superhero. Each winner received a Junior Cookbook as a prize. The winners are pictured with Cafeteria Manager Tammy Tyler and Interim Principal Anita Puckett, and from left to right the winners are:

Nancy Trapp to Speak and Darrin Vincent Will Entertain at Chamber Prayer Breakfast

Everyone is invited to attend the Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber Prayer Breakfast to be held on Tuesday, November 20th from 7 AM to 8 AM at the DeKalb County Complex Community Theatre, 712 South Congress Drive, Smithville.  Doors open at 6:30 AM.

The Prayer Breakfast theme is “The Journey to Forgiveness.” This year’s keynote speaker, Nancy Trapp, will share her story of devastating, soul-shaking tragedy, along with her journey through anger and pain and eventually to forgiveness and personal growth.

Nancy is a graduate of ULM University of Louisiana-Monroe, is CNOR-certified in operating room procedures, and has her master’s degree from UT, Knoxville in nursing administration and nursing education. Nancy is a member of Smithville First Baptist Church, Sigma Theta Tau Nursing, and AORN Nashville. She worked for Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital 11 1/2 years.

Also, on the program, 5 Grammy Awards, 8 IBMA Awards for Instrumental Group of the Year winner, and Grand Ole Opry inductee Darrin Vincent of the bluegrass duo, Dailey and Vincent, will our singing entertainment. Local Boy Scout Troop #347 will present the flags. Leaders from our community will lead prayers for our Children and Families, Health and Healing of our Communities, and Military and Emergency Response Personnel making this a meaningful and memorable experience. A delicious breakfast will be prepared by Jason Evans, head chef of The Inn at Evins Mill and served with the help of the Chamber Board of Directors and the Leadership DeKalb Class of 2019.

Early Voting Ends Thursday

Voters have one more day to cast their ballot early for the November 6 Tennessee General Election.

Early voting will be Thursday, November 1 from 2-6 p.m. on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse.

A total of 2,750 have already voted early. According to Administrator of Elections Dennis Stanley,  171 voted Wednesday (164 in person and 7 by absentee).

Election day voting on Tuesday, November 6 is 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at all 15 precincts in the county.
