Former Store Clerk to Make Restitution for Stealing Lottery Tickets

A former employee of Kwik N Ezy who stole over $18,000 in lottery tickets from the store last year was sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court today (Monday).

Judge Gary McKenzie presided.

47 year old Melody Ann Bandy entered a plea to theft over $10,000 and received a 6 year sentence suspended to TDOC probation. She has been granted judicial diversion and will be eligible to get her record expunged if she abides by all conditions of her probation over the 6 year term. Under the plea agreement Bandy is to make restitution of $18,717 to Kwik N Ezy. Her plans are to pay it off $400 per month.

According to the warrant, while working as an employee at Kwik N Ezy, Bandy committed the offense of theft of property by taking without paying or without consent of the store owner lottery tickets valued at approximately $18,717.00 between July 1 and October 11, 2017.

A 41 year old Dowelltown man was sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court today (Monday) after entering a plea by information to sexual battery and possession of methamphetamine.

Judge Gary McKenzie presided.

Bobby Lee Anderson received an 8 year sentence in the meth case and 2 years for the sexual battery to run concurrently as one 8 year term. He was given jail credit of 153 days and will be on TDOC probation. Anderson was also fined $2,000. As a convicted sex offender, Anderson’s name will be on the state’s sex offender registry for 10 years.

The grand jury returned a sealed indictment against Anderson in July charging him with sexual battery by an authority figure.

Anderson was accused of fondling a 13 year old girl in May 2016.

The indictment alleged that during the month of May, 2016 Anderson unlawfully and intentionally or knowingly accomplished sexual contact with a 13 year old girl by use of parental or custodial authority over the victim in violation of state law.

The meth case stemmed from an investigation by the Sheriff’s Department in June.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Tuesday, June 26 a sheriff’s department detective and chief deputy went to Anderson’s residence in Dowelltown to speak with him. After obtaining consent to search Anderson’s mini storage unit, the officers found in various baggies about three grams of a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine along with digital scales, pipes, syringes, and several empty baggies. Anderson admitted that the items found belonged to him.
