Smithville Elementary would like to recognize our Students of the Month for December. These students were selected for their outstanding character, academics, and other traits that make them an all-around excellent student. Selected as Students of the Month for December are:

PreK- Josue Aldino, Scarlet Odom
Kindergarten – Blakelyn Cripps, Summer South
1st Grade – Alejandra Gutierrez, Savannah Slorp
2nd Grade – J.J. Masters, Cecelia Lopez

Amber Howell Named SES Teacher of the Month

Smithville Elementary is recognizing its Teacher of the Month for December, Ms. Amber Howell.

SES honors one teacher each month for his/her outstanding performance in teaching and their contribution to the students at our school. The teacher of the month is selected by the administration at Smithville Elementary.

Some of Ms. Amber’s compliments include:

“Amber is very smart and helpful with her colleagues and great with the students.”

“Ms. Amber is always eager to help and has a great attitude. She is patient, loving, kind, and caring to all of her kids as she helps them reach their full potential. Ms. Amber makes time for everyone and always goes the extra mile. We are blessed to have Ms. Amber as she is awesome with our littlest learners! CONGRATS MS. AMBER!”

DCHS Completes Season Sweep of Watertown (Listen to WJLE’s Tiger Talk Program Here)

The DCHS basketball teams completed a season sweep of Watertown Monday night beating both the Purple Tigers and Ladies in Smithville.

In the first game, the DC Lady Tigers won 57 to 49 while the Tigers knocked off the visitors from Watertown 58 to 40. In the last meeting on December 1 the Tigers beat the Purple Tigers 59 to 43 while the Lady Tigers won 44 to 37.

Both DeKalb County teams are now 6-5 and will go their separate ways in holiday tournaments in the coming days.

In Monday night’s action, the DC Lady Tigers led 14 to 9 after the 1st period, 21 to 14 at halftime, and 35 to 33 after the 3rd period before securing a 57 to 49 victory.

Allie Melton led DC in scoring with 22 followed by Ella VanVranken with 20, Avery Agee 7, Brooklyn Fuson 4 and Chloe VanVranken and Tess Barton each with 2.

In the boys’ game, the DC Tigers led 14 to 11 after the 1st period, 28 to 19 at halftime, and 45 to 26 after the 3rd period before defeating the Purple Tigers 58 to 40.

Conner Close led in scoring with 17 points followed by Dallas Kirby with 10, Ian Colwell 8, Jordan Parker 7, Alex Antoniak 6, Seth Fuson 5, Owen Snipes 4, and Kaleb Spears with 1.
