Tigers edge Macon County at Lafayette

In their first meeting this basketball season Friday night, the DeKalb County Tigers edged out Macon County 64 to 62 in overtime at Lafayette while the Lady Tigers were outmatched in their game with the highly ranked Tigerettes 71 to 57.
For the girls, Macon County led 14 to 13 after the 1st period, 35 to 21 at halftime, and 49 to 32 after the 3rd period before defeating the DC Lady Tigers 71 to 57.
Kadee Ferrell scored 19, Megan Cantrell 13, Ella Van Vranken 12, Cadee Griffith 9, and Summer Crook and Madison Martin each with 2.
In the boys game DeKalb County trailed 16 to 15 after the 1st period but DC grabbed a 36 to 30 halftime lead and held a 48 to 41 advantage after the 3rd period. Macon County rallied in the 4th to tie the game at 57 by the end of regulation. DeKalb County then outscored Macon County 7 to 5 in the overtime period to win 64 to 62.
Evan Jones scored 28 followed by Stetson Agee with 15, Elishah Ramos 6, Luke Jenkins 5, Conner Close 4, Brayden Antoniak 3, and Jordan Young with 3.
The Tigers improve to 5-7 (2-4) while Macon County drops to 2-9 (0-5). The Lady Tigers slip to 5-8 (1-5) as Macon County goes to 10-1 (4-1).
DeKalb County will host Sequatchie County today (Saturday, January 16) in Smithville starting with the girls game at 3:00 p.m. followed by the boys game. WJLE will have LIVE radio coverage and also plans to carry the games via Facebook LIVE.
DeKalb Retired Teachers make memorial tribute donations to two DCHS athletic programs

Members of the DeKalb County Retired Teachers Association presented memorial tributes on Friday to two DeKalb County High School athletic programs.
A donation was given to the basketball program in honor of Hearon Puckett, husband of retired teacher Ann Puckett, and to the baseball program in honor of Roy Nelson Pugh, son of retired teacher Jenelle Pugh.
Accepting the memorials were basketball coach Danny Fish, Principal Randy Jennings and baseball coach Tad Webb. Making the presentations were Linda Thweatt, Becky Davis and Donna Davis.

Smithville man found with child porn

A Smithville man found with images of child pornography on his mobile phone has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor.
50 year old David Royden Drennan of Sparta Highway, Smithville is under a $150,000 bond. The arrest warrant was taken by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department Detective Stephen Barrett.
According to District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, “Investigators with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office began to investigate a tip that Drennan was in possession of photographic and video images of children which are sexual in nature. The ICAC unit with the Cookeville Police Department also assisted in the investigation”.
“As the investigation progressed, evidence was discovered showing that Drennan had in excess of 50 images of child pornography on his mobile telephone”.
