State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver Pays Tribute to DeKalb West School

December 13, 2018
By: Bill Conger

Representative Terri Lynn Weaver paid a visit to DeKalb West School on Tuesday (Dec. 11) to commend the students and staff for earning the 2018 Reward School distinction.

“We start session next month and before we start session, I wanted to come out and congratulate you from the state for the hard work you have done,” Representative Weaver told the 5th grade classrooms.  “You are a Reward School, and that only happens when your teachers, your principals, and you kids roll up your sleeves and get in there and study and do good on your tests, and do good in your classrooms. You’ve been recognized by the state. Congratulations. Keep up the good work and keep rocking and rolling.”

Representative Weaver delivered a proclamation from the state that she and Speaker of the House Beth Harwell signed.

It reads as follows: “Whereas, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those public schools in Tennessee that, through the natural talents and unflagging commitment to academic excellence evidenced by their administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents, have achieved significant milestones; and

Whereas, DeKalb West Elementary School is one such school that was recently honored as a 2018 Reward School by the Tennessee Department of Education, the top distinction a school can earn in Tennessee; and

Whereas, awarded to only twenty percent of schools in Tennessee in 2018, reward school status designates those schools that are improving overall student academic achievement and student growth for all students and student groups; and

Whereas, the principal, faculty, and staff of DeKalb West Elementary School have built an environment that ensures students have the very best atmosphere for learning; and

Whereas, DeKalb West Elementary School’s selection as a 2018 Reward School is a tremendous source of pride for the school’s administration, teachers, students, and parents; and

Whereas, the dedication to academic excellence demonstrated by all the fine individuals affiliated with DeKalb West Elementary School is clearly deserving of our respect, admiration, and commendation; now, therefore,

I, Beth Harwell, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the One Hundred Tenth General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, at the request of and in conjunction with Representative Terri Lynn Weaver, do hereby proclaim that we congratulate DeKalb West Elementary School on being named a 2018 Reward School, salute the school’s administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents on this prestigious honor, and extend to them our best wishes for continued success in the future.

Proclaimed in Nashville, Tennessee, on this 19th day of November, 2018.
